"Washington, June 6.—A-Ithough he Ik opposed to' the soldiers’ bonus as a matter- of principle', Secretary of the Treasury Mellon declared today he believed congress had a legal right to enact the btfnus law. Ills statement was made In connec neetion with a suit filed here for an injunction to stop the bonus pay ment. Mellon was named one of the defendants In the suit, which was brought by Benjamin Catchings, a New York lawyer. Another suit to stop the bonus was i filed in tile district supreme court to day by Joseph Wheless of New York, • who said he served as a major in the world war and was honorably discharged. Wheless is a lawyer and represented himself In the suit. He declared the bonus act was un just, illegal and unreasonable and asked that the court enjoin the War and Navy departments and the veter ans’ bureau front carrying It Into • effect. R. Aga of Wvnot. Mr. Strom came from Sweden and settled on a farm near Hartington when a young man. He is survived by his wife and five children. Bloontflelil—Funeral services were held at the Methodist church here for Mrs. Richard Lukens, who died Friday. She was 88 years old and was oneof the early’ settlers of this com munity.
