Mahoney has surrendered to public sentiment and sanctioned the calling of a meeting ot progressives from all parts of the state Sunday to decide whether the convention Is to he held. Washington, May 23.—Following up Senator Robert M. IjaFollette’s de nunciation of the "farmer-labor-pro gresslve" convention, to he held at St. 1 aijl on June 17, the American Fed eration of T.abor today warned trade unionists throughout the country to have nothing to do with the eonven llnn. The warning was signed by Sam uel Rompers, who said that he had . evidence that the convention would by controlled "by international com munists from Moscow." — Movie Operator, Convicted l»\ Jury, Given 20 Years to Life. N'ew nrk, May 29.—Harry I,. Hoff man, middle aged motion picture op erator, tried for the slaying of Mrs. Maude A. Bauer, was found guilty of murder In the second degree this morning. Hoffman was sentenced to from 20 years to life Imprisonment. The jury was out 12 hour*. Mrs. Bauer, mother of two children, was killed in a lonely Staten Island road March 2S last, after she had accepted a “lift" from a passing motorist. Her automobile, in which h»r two children and her mother had been riding, had stalled and Mrs. Bauer was in search of a garage when she m*t the man in the ma chine who killed her.
