Fate of Bonus Is in Chiefs Hands Conflicting Rumors as to Wbat President Will Do Are Rampant. Washington, May S.—The bonus , came hack to roost on the White )louse doorstep today. Passed by both house* of congress overwhelmingly, and sssured of pa* sage again, even over a. prealdentlnl veto, the controversial Issue hid* fair this time to be settled once and for all. The president will either m hav« to sign It or veto It within 10 days, els* the measure become* law automatically. Opinion was badly divided today over the probable course of President Coolldge. Members of congress who have discussed the situation with him recently have gone away from the White House with directly con flicting views as to what he will do. Home expressed the view todsy that Mr. Coolldge, realizing the hill Is bound to become law anyway, will either sign It on the theory It Is the cheapest bill obtainable from a treas ury standpoint, or else will allow It to become law without signature, thus Indicating a degree of disap proval. Others were confident that, In view of his frequent and often repeated criticism of the bonus "In principle" the president would not hesitate to reject the measure arid return It to congix-h* with a strung message of outright disapproval. Meanwhile, pressure for and against the measure began to heat agalnat the Whit* Hour* doors today. Telegrarna, letters and messages of all eorts poured In to the president's of fice recommending a course of action. r'" - Eloping Maid Caught, Wed by Father Two hearts that have been heating k, as on* for some time were united In wedlock Saturday morning In Council Bluffs. n*y E.
