Especially as the Pirates make obeisance lo no club In hilling, and ss the Cubs arc not without lusty smackers. The story of Mays Is Interesting. In 1921 he led the American league with 27 victories and nine defeat*. Ills ''siihmarlne shooting" torpedoed other aspirants and gave the Yanks fhelr first pennant. He was a great star, very strong physically, seemingly sure to go nn quite a few years In winning form for the Yanks. When he got "in wrong." It's doing no Injustice, being the truth, to say Mays has a bad temper, and was Inclined to surllnosa. He and Manager Huggins had rackets. So did Maya and Babe Ruth. The morale of ihe club waa threatened. Soma players thought then thoy were bigger In the eyes of the Yank owners than the manager. It's an old story. Col. T. I,. Huston wasn’t so strong for Huggins. Rut Col. Jacob Rupert, now sole owner, most certain ly was. In 1922 Maya hit the chut*. losing 14 and winning only 12 rames. H# crashed altogether last season, figur ing in few games and getting pasted so sadly he waa kept on the bench. ROMERO TO FIGHT FLOYD JOHNSON New York.
