(hnaha Banks Raise Pledges to C. of C. Fund Subscriptions to Activities Work of Chamber Doubled and Tripled; Outlook Bright. Omaha hanks ars taking the lead it Increasing the financial support of ihe Chamber of Commerce, Clarke (}. Powell, commissioner-elect, who i now devoting his time to finance i nd membership, reports. This week two of the larger banks ebled His amount of their subscrip ions to the chamber. Another has loubled Its subscription to the actlvl :ps fund. All other bunks visited are illlng In line with the new plan > iilch will permit the chamber to nonden the scope and efficiency of is activities for the benefit of the ity as a whole and are subscribing mre liberally to this fund. Highly Gratifying. "It Is highly gratifying to receive ils support,” Powel: said. He will ilce office as commissioner, May 1. loceedlng J. David Larson. Confidence is also expressed that ,ther business firms will follow the •i ad of the banks with increased sub scriptions and that several firms who have not heretofore given the cham ber financial support will subscribe, indications of this were given Powell in the last two days when three such firms sent checks to the activities ^ fond of the chamber. New Members Encourage. Increased interest In the chamber Iso is shown in the membership, the (tendance and Increased activity of ihe several committees and the en rollment of new members In the last i wo weeks. At the last meeting of the membership council, of which K. N. Croxson is chairman, more ap plications for membership were re ported than had been received for a month previous. This is encouraging to the mem bers of the council who have set a goal of 100 new members to be ob tained In April. For this purpose the council has been dtvlded Into two teams, captained by Croxson and F. T. B. Martin, vice chairman. As an Incentive to friendly rivalry in the drive, Powell has Intimated the captain whose team obtains the most new members, and the Individual scoring the highest will each receive a new Easter hat. Dining Room Report Soon. Miss Ethel Fullaway, new manage, of the chamber dining room, will make her first report to the executive corn mlttee at Its next meeting. Progress in the financial standing of the department Is expected to be shown. Although the total bills pay aide and money received may not show a good balance, Clarke G. Pow ell, commissioner-elect, expressed a belief that it would be "good." "There has been a considerable quantity buying during the last two weeks,” he said. "In addition, the stair of waiters has been Increased. But when the women took over the department It was decided that a cer tain Increase In the number of patrons would make it a paying proposition." Man Stabbed in Fight; Police Hold Son-in-Law Lincoln, March 28.—John Williams, 22. Is held by police on a charge of having stabbed his father in law, John Sims. Sims was stabbed over the heart while fighting here last night. His wound is not serious, the police surgeon declared. A large blood stained pocket knife, alleged to be Williams, Is held as evidence.
