THAT EXTRA ROOM IS A LIABILITY -WHY NOT RENT IT? BATTLE 01 TODAY Spulh Dakota Primaries First Clean-Cut Test of Relative Strength. --- Washington, March 25.—President Coolidge came to grips with Senator Hiram Johnson today in the South Dakota primaries in the first clean cy.t test of strength with his Califor nia rival. The < uolidge managers have tele graphed the White House that every thing is ship shape and they, expect' ft continuance of the president’s vic torious march toward nomination at Cleveland 10 weeks hence. On the other hand the Johnson managers on the ground have told their friends that the president is due to experience his first setback and suffer hi* Initial defeat in the pre convention campaign. Today’s Election Important. Both Coolidge and the Johnson camps have placed an Importance on the outcome of today a balloting ttjat far transcends the number of dele gates Involved. Coolidge already has 225 delegates in hie pocket and the acquisition of 13 more is not in itself considered particularly vital. i What the Coolidge managers are anxious to avoid if possible is the ex perience of a defeat in the first clear contest the president lias had with a serious rival. Vital to Johnson. To Senator Johnson, how-ever, the outcome today In South Dakota is even more Important. Johnson has concentrated on the state and he has been aided there by one of the sena tors, peter Norbeck, and a powerful and aggressive state organization. If, *Ch this aid, which is more than he can expect in other states, he cannot turn the tide against the present occu pant of the White House his candi dacy is in a bad way, according to the political rail birds in the capital. 3 NEW SMALLPOX CASES REPORTED Three new cases of smallpox in Omaha have been brought to the at tention of city health officials within the last 48 hours.
