Moslems Plan to Elect New Caliph Expulsion of Abdul Medjid Denouneed as Grave Insult. Delhi, British India. March 11.—The expulsion from Turkey of Abdul Med jid as caliph, came as a thunderbolt to India. Moslem opinion here sweep ingly condemn* th* action of Mus tapha Kemal In abolishing the cali phate and dispossessing the imperial family from Constantinople. It Is felt that the Turks have not only dealt a severi blow at Islam, hut have belittled Indian Moslems In this vital matter. The action i* de nounced as a grave Insult. King Hussein’s accession to the cali phate Is not thoughtallkely to be ac cepted in India and the Kgyptlan plan of holding an Islamic conference of leading Moslems from all over the world In order to elect a caliph Is generally favored here. Teprltet, Switzerland, March 11.— Abdul Medjid, deposed Turkish caliph, lias Issued a call to the Moslem popu lations of the world to .determine through their rpspective group lead ers what should be done regarding the caliphate, in view of his exile. He •ays that he considers the measure deposing him and abolishing the cali phate as "fundamentally sacrilegious and void.” 90.396.000 Bushels of Wheat in Stock Washington, March 11.—Stocks of wheat at country mills and elevators on March 1 totaled 90.396,000 bushels, th* Department of Agriculture an nounced today. March 11.—Renewed liquida tion In May wheat today Invited more ac tive pressure from the locals, prices swinging to lower levels for the session. Good aesorption was encountered in the weak spots, especially in deferred months, but the rally from bottom levels was slight. Wheat closed He to He lower; corn *in to He higher, and oats J-*c to He lower, while dye was He to He lower. Bearish construction of the government report on farm reserves, generally favor able weather over the winter belt and weakness at. Liverpool all aided in the wheat decline A hours that has been acting for eastern interests was among the best buyers of wheat In the late trad ing. Corn moved in the opposite direction, a strong undertone developing as a result of the exceptionally light receipts and Rtantlity of premiums here. The govern ment reserve estimate on corn was taken as bullish. The government report on oats re serves apparently exerted a depressing ef fect, for early in the day liquidation whs liberal. However. commission houses bought the offerings with vigor, and while the close was low?r. it looked steady in tona Rye eased with other grains despite the sharp revival of foreign demand. Trade waa small and prices met scattered pres sure only. Locally cash rye was easy. Provisions were lower most of the day but recovered well at the last and closed steady to firm. Lard closed unchanged to 5a higher. Pit Notes. I Considering the bearish import given the recent statistical information and the continued desultory outside int.ereat. the wheat market certainly exhibited admir able resisence to selling today. The gov eminent report on mill ami elevator stock1-, issued shortly before the « lose, was variously construed, marketwlse. Mill and country elevator stocks were placed at 90,396,00(1 bushels compared with 92,538,000 bushels last year, revised figures. The trade has been in some in stances a lighter estimate, although when added together with the estimate on farm stocks and the available supply, a total of 292.000.000 bushels Is obtained, compared with 300,000,000 bushels a year ago. The bearish element said while the dif ference In supplies in this country was small compared with last year, still our prices were above a world parity and must drop. This, particularly, because or the large supplies in Canada, Argentina and other surplus tounlries. that- are for sale at cheaper levels. Bulls said the United States sold little wheat last year from this season on With stocks smaller than a year ago and the outlook for crop reduction more favorable, the underlying situation, they emphasize, loomed strong CHICAGO CASH PRICES.
