<Be Independent—Own a Good Business. Read Classification 33 Today J. L. Webster Calls Him Great est Man in History in Talk at Fontenelle. In Ills address on George AVashing ton, to the Continental club in Hotel Fontenelle ut luncheon today, John I., AVebster opened with the follow ing quotation from an address de livered by Abraham Lincoln, Feb ruary 22, 1842: “Washington is tiro mlghtie'st man on earth—long since the mightiest the cause of civil liberty. On that name no eulogy is expected. It can not be. To add brightness to the sun, or'glory to the name of Wash ington, is alike impossible. Let none attempt it. In solemn awe pronounce the name, and in its marked, death less splendor, leave it shine on.” Incidents of Life. Mr. AA’cbster added the following comment: "Confronted with these eulogistic words from the lips of one second only to AVashington, it is not for me to attempt to add to either tho brightness or the glory of AV'ash ^Jpgton's place in history. But we BM^miay ho pardoned for making some brief allusions to some of the impor tant incidents in AA’ashlngton’s life. During his review of the life of the first president, Mr. AArebster said: "The things aolomplished by most other great men in history are os fragments when compared to the many grand achievements of Washington. Un roll the scroll of history from the time of Alexander to Cromwell, and none in Ids useful work for mankind or In the national government will compare with George AA'ashington. He stands above them all.” Displayed True Greatness Mr. Webster added that it was in I lie conflict of opinions among the people after the close of the revolu tion that the real greatness of Wash ington most displayed itself, at a time and in a crisis that demanded wlde . reaching and constructive faculties. lie added this thought: "I may say of the life work and influence it George Washington, that It passes ny understanding and comprehension, •od seems to have created George Washington as a central planet of the human race." MIDWEST HONORS WASHINGTON Chicago, Feb. 22.—The 192d anni versary of the birth of George Wash ington. tlie nation's first president, was observed throughout the middle west today with patriotic exercises, while most public institutions and business houses had a holiday. Patriotic societies sponsored special fc|^^yxerclHes in commemoration of the H^^*TOontry s revolutionary war leader who directed its destines during the first years of the nation's existence. Schools everywhere were closed, fol lowing observances of the anniversary by pupils yesterday. LOST BLAIR BOY FOUND IN OMAHA Robert Hanna. 14, of Blair, Neb., who has been missing from his home for more than a week, was discovered thie morning at the, home of Mrs. A. J. Rogers, 4224 Pierce street, where he applied for work. He told Mrs. Rogers hoth his par ents were dead. She gave him a homo while she endeavored to find a place for him on a farm. She tele phoned Inquiries from the home of Patrolman Bauman, who overheard the boy’s name and advised her that police had been asked to look for him. Robert will be returned to Blair. ANYTHING AT ALL New York, Feb. 22.—The firm of "Phone L's, Jne.," which opened offices In November, had announced that for a fee of $30 annually it would answer any question pro pounded over the telephone by sub scribers. Departure of the officers, ostensibly for Canada, however, left no one to answer the question of em ployes as to how they were to collect their salaries and yesterday the flx ■L tores of the West Forty-third street ^^^(^tflces were sold for $320. The salary claims total $347. The 25 telephones rang incessant ly yesterday. A casual visitor who answered some of the'calls at ran dom was asked: "How old Is Mrs. Flske?" "Who Is John T, King?” "How many wives has Dewolf Hop per had?" "What is the fifth dimension?” Eggs Dug Up in S. D. Piece of Shell Burned Gives Odor as If Fresh 60.000. 000 Years Old ___/ Chicago, Feb. 12.—Two eggs, be lieved to bn bird eggs, between 35, 000,000 and 80,000,000 years old, whirh were found in South Dakota, have been added to the collection of fossils In the Field museum. Chemical tests have proved that tlie additions are eggs and not stones, a small piece of the petri fied shell when chipped off and burned having given an odor similar lo that accompanying the burning of a fresh egg shell. “Of course, we cannot bn positive that they are duck eggs,” II. \V. Nichols, associate curator of geology at the museum said, “but they are from a bird whirh must have been much like a modern duck. They are the exact shape of duck eggs and the texture is the same.” The age of the eggs was deter mined by the sort of rock In which iIvey were found, rock that belong ed to the early Miocene age, some 35.000. 000 to 60,000,000 years ago. Except for the disonaur eggs re eentty discovered In Mongolia, the duck eggs are believed to bn among the oldest mauifselations of animal Ufe yet found.
