Danny and Nanny Kestime Their • Travels. ( It was on the third day after the birth of their five babies that Danny and Nanny Meadow Mouse were star tled by feeling their home moving. The great man bird was being wheeled out to the edge of an open field. The repairs had been finished. The air plane was now as good as ever. Danny and Nanny didn’t know this. They didn't know what the bumping and •shaking meant. And they didn’t dare peep out to find out. At last it stopped. For a while they heard men's voices. Then suddenly they were frightened almost out of their wits by a great roar. It was so sudden and unexpected and it was so long since they had heard it that for a moment or two they didn’t know what it was. It was the engine, which had been started. For a couple of minutes they bounced along over the ground, for the field was rough. Then ihe bouncing stopped. They were In Ihe air. The great man bird was fly ing once more. Danny said nothing to Nanny. Nanny said nothing to Danny. They ouidn't make each other hear for tlie noise that the great man-bird made. But each knew that the other knew hat they would never go back to the home they had made under an old stump after the fall of the great man bird, Kach knew that the other knew •hat once mote they were off to see strange places and strange sights. Somehow, he didn't know why. Danny was glad. After a while he ventured to peep out of the little cup hoard in which their home was hid den. Only their friend the aviator was in the great man bird. Danny ventured wholly- out. Just then jtlic aviator turned ills head and glanced liack. He saw Danny. Ills eyes brightened He chuckled. ’’W ell. well. well, what do you know about this ' he exclaimed. "I didn’t expect ever to sec that Mou-e again. I wonder if his mate is with him. They must have kept light on living here in that cupboard I had * - much else to think about that I never once thought to look for them. 1 must see tl at they get plenty to eat. lie reached into a box of lunch and \fter a white he returned to peep out of (he little cupboard in which their home was hidden. > broke off some piere* of br°ad. He tossed them behind him so that the; fell just In front of that little rup loaul. Danny seized one at once and took it into that little cupboard. He gave it t'jt Nanny, then went out for another piece for himself. My. my. how good It tasted! They knew now that that aviator was still their friend, and $ great fear vva« lifted from their hearts. Come w hat might. they would stay in that great man-bird until those babies were big enough and strong enough to go out into the Great World. That is. they would stay there ;f they could get food enough, and they had a feeling that the avia tor would see to it that they did get food enough. So Danny and Nanny resumed their travels. And while Nanny had no thought for anything but her babies. Iianny begin to look forward to new sights. tCopj r.fhl. ‘1S24 I The next atorv : "Danny * Great Fright." ('Iiurcli Vi omeu to Meet. Mr*.
