NEBRASKA NEWS NUBBINS ! ■_ LOUP CITY—The health board here has reported several new cases of pneumonia. There are quite a few k cases but nons have proven serious. ^^Thls epidemic follows a recent dipht epidemic in which there were two fatalities. CALIiAWAY—It has been decided definitely that Callaway will hold a poultry and corn show some time in January, probably during the last week. The committee is now at work arranging the details. C. B. Benger and Walter Cox of the Community dub agricultural committee are in charge. NEW HELENA—Morris, small son of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Farritor of New Helena, was on his way to school when his horse became fright ened and threw him. He* landed against a fence post, and suffered a big gash in ills chin. SCOTTSBLUFF—Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Yocum wilt celebrate their Both wedding anniversary on New Year’s day. They were married in Salis bury, Mo., in 1874. and have-been the parents of 32 children, all of whom are living but one. All of the children Will spend the day witli their parents, rxeept Darrell, who Is in the United States navy and is unable to get leave. Mr. and Mrs. Yocum were children together, attending the same school and t church. A public recep tion will be held for them New Years’ day at the Christian church. BEATRICE—Postofflco Inspector Mo user is in the city investigating de predations to rural mall boxes. John Jurgens, farmer living north of ihe city, reported to Postmaster Pease that a mail box near his place had been torn down and battered. ALBION—The Boone county Ki wants club held its meeting Monday evening at St. Edward. A banquet was served by the ladies of the M. E. church. About TO attended from Albion. An Interesting program was given by home talent. l^^rfl^JARNEY—Arthur Logan and ^^Wili Rybian made their escape front the Industrial school Wednesday. The boys managed to obtain a key to their grade room and escaped in the night, it is the third time that Logan, a colored lad, has made his getaway. Three weeks ago he escaped and was captured at Gibbon, after he had burglarized a home there and assault ed the owner who happened to return while Logan was at work. NELSON—Edward Kelly died at bis home in Nora Sunday. He was fin early settler in this county and had been an extensive farmer and stockman. He was born in Canada In 1852. Three children and a brother survive him. v. The funeral was con ducted by Rev. Father Fitzgerald of Red Cloud. Tuesday afternoon. In terment was at Nora. SCOTTSB LU F F—F. A. Blrchell, prominent Gering merchant, is recov ering from an electric shock, which he received a day or to ago, when he took hold of a drop-cord and an iron railing at the same tifhe. The current was so strong Mr. Blrchell could not free himself and would have been killed had It not been for timely assistance. REPLBLICAN CITY — The course »f the Golden Rod highway has been changed here by establishing It one block east of the old route, after passing through* Main street. The idea was to avoid a low and narrow road bed which, at times, has been .•ompletely covered with water. With the change this disagreeableness will >e avoided, for the new road is fixed ^ it a considerable height and broad by 20 feet. WYMORE—Members of the Wy more Presbyterian church, being but a few in number, recently sold the old frame church building and the lots here for residence purposes, and have united with members of the same church at Blue Springs, one mile north of here, where a new structure is just being completed which will he used jointly, and which will be ready for dedication In the Hear future. The new building stands on the site of an old frame which was dismantled, and the improvement will cost about $4,000 when completed. BLADEN—Excavation work has started for the new $65,000 high school building. The contract has been let to the Bresbaum Construc tion company of Fairbury, and ar rangements are about completed. The structure will be two stories and full basement, and will be modern in every respect. It Is expected actual work on the blinding will start in the spring, and an' attempt will b© made to complete the building for the fall term of school. REPUBLICAN CITY—Plans are be ing made for the biggest Christmas ever known In the history of this vil lage. A treat for every child in the community is being prepared. SCOTT SB LUFF—Leslie Jaggers, electrician at the Great Western sugar mill in this city,, was painfully burned when the wiring became de fective In mill. This sum met all the needs of the bureau during the year closing. It is planned to hold the annual meeting on January 16. ARNOLD—Arnold schools are closed on the account of the discov ery of a case of diphtheria. There was only one case, but the victim was at school until the disease was in advanced stages. A ban also has been placed on all public gatherings as a further precaution. SCOTTSBLUFF—O. H. Bartow and Mrs. Charles Snocker of Gering, were elected delegates to attend the stute farm bureau federation in Lincoln, January 8, at a meeting of the Scotts Bluff county farm bureau held here Monday.
