Man Kills Two in Restaurant Becomes Enraged at Delay in Bringing Bowl of Cracked Ice. By International News Sen Ire. Chicago, Dec. 8.—John Bheehy, Chicago "bad man,'1 who shot and killed two men in the Rendezvous cafe here early today and who was felled shortly afterward with several bullets, died at noon today at a hos pital. Chicago. Dec. 8.—Bullets whistled a sharp dance of death In competi tion with the mirthful tunes to which 500 patrons were dancing as two murders and accompanying casual ties dedicated the new $100,000 Jap anese room of the fashionable Hen dezvous cafe on the north side early today. Two employes of the cafe were shot to death and a detective sergeant wounded when an alleged "bad man' thought he had to wait too long for a bowl of cracked ice. The kille: himself was shot through the atom ach In his flight. ' He probably will die. The dead are Leopold Gouch, stew ard of the cafe; Henry Bing, a bar tender. The "bad man,” John Sheehy. is near death in the Chicago General hospital with a bullet wound througli the stomach. Sergeant William O’Malley of the detective bureau was wounded In the arm. Sheehy had been drinking when he entered the cafe at an early hour, ac cording to police. He was impatient when his order for a bowl of cracked ice was not filled promptly and went he service bar. mng, the bartender, urged him to return to his seat and wait, but Sheehy brought out his pun and shot. Bing crumpled to the floor. Goucli rushed toward Sheehy with a bottle and another shot brought him flown. Sergeant William O’Malley, in plain clothes, entered the cafe, re volver in hand, but met Sheehy’s lev eled gun and the order "beat It and blamed quick or I'll sill you.” O’Mai ley dodged behind a swinging door and out tc» get Sergeant John O’Mal ley. As William O'Malley entered the cafe a second time at the front door, Sheehy's shot struck him In the right arm. The gunman attempted to make his escape through the rear of the cafe, hut was brought down by the second detective's shot. After a temporary halt, the danc ing in the cafe went ahead, while the bodies were being removed. Harding Memorial Week. Washington. Dec. 8.—Harding Memorial week will be started to morrow with special services In churches throughout the country and ceremonies also will be held at sea, the Memorial association announced today, on naval and merchant vessels. E. Curran the hoy’s attorney, and P. 8. Mason of Newkirk, Okl., his American guardian, will proceed with them to Oklahoma to enter his claim to an oil estate valued at $7,000,000. According to his attorney, the hoy Is the son of the late Dugal Car michael. who was a United States soldier, and of a Fll’plno woman. Railroad Into Mexico Denied Washington, Dec. 8.—The Staley yetem of electrified railways was ienied permission by the interstate .ommerce commission today to build a 1,100-mile line from a point on the Gulf of California, In Mexico, through the states of Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and Utah. The estimated cost of constructing and equipping euch a road, the com mission concluded, would be about $134,000,000.
