.Successful' Business Girl Admits Failure in Love . Game Trouble Lies in Anxiety to Close Proposition—Too Practical to be Satisfied With Dreams and Romance Before Marriage Question is Approached , ' - Hy MARTHA ALLEN. CANY girls who have made good at business haven't made good in the game of love and I am «*e of them," declares Jane in her letter. "I have been working for • ight years and I've made good so 1 fan't see why 1 can’t make good In-other important things of life.” Concentration on one job is bound lo mean neglect for other things. Business girls are sometimes so very practical like Jane that it will be necessary to change if success is to be reached in the business of choos ing or finding a life-partner. The main trouble is that these level-head ed sensible girls are not content to dream awhile and be romantic before • tlie great question of marriage is be fore them. As in their business deal ings, they want to expedite matters, to close the deal. They are not will ing to look first for just a friend, a companion, and perhaps later con sider -him as a prospective husband. They measure him up at the first meeting or two for his possibilities for a good husband. Study a man with the desire to help him and to offer him the best friendship of which you are capable. Make your business. You have been out in the world long enough to know values. Don't Spend your energies on any man who might smile upon you. Make your choice and then build a friendship that will perhaps later turn into devotion and real love. Should She Keep the King? Dear Miss Allen: Your advice has helped me before, so I'm coming again. About a year ago I became acquainted with a young man In a different town. We became secretly engaged and intended to be married next summer, hut he was accidentally killed last week. Should I keep the ring and wear it? My folks do not know of my engagement. Should I tell them? ONLY SIXTEEN. The engagement ring that was given to you is your property now. so you should certainly keep it. It isn’t necessary to wear the ring on the third finger of your left hand. You should tell your parents of your en gagement and then wear the ring on any finger you wish. It can no longer be considered an engagement ring. ■>ut just a ring given to you as a token of affection. Adele Garrison “Mv Hugband’s I.ove” Leila and .Madge Didn't (io to the Ilnspit.iL Mindful of Katherine’s admonition to keep Leila, from (he hospital as long as possible. I put lier ln a taxi ami gave the driver our apartment s without her bearing it. When we (arrived, she looked at me, star tled. But this can't be the hospital,” she said. "It isn't," I rejoined. “It's my ‘be It ever so humble’ and the rest of it. You're coming up to have a cup of tea and lie down belude we go to the hospital. I know- Dr. Braithwaite. He'll only let us stay a minute or two. Alfred probably has been cool ing his heels in the reception room most of the time since he has been there. So we might ns well stay h“ie. I can get Alfred on the tele phone at the hospital, after awhile, and he can tell us what time to go ' „ over. • jf£)iel For many months we have been building a hotel for you —quietly and unobtrusively we have constructed practi cally a new hotel within the walis of Hotel Loyal. From the cellar to the roof we can today take you with justifi able pride and show you the equipment renewed in every detail—to make for you the same sort of first class hotel comfort which characterized Hotel Loyal on the day of its initial opening. ' A few permanent guest rooms and suites are avail able at this time—-and at prices much lower than you expect. ' No Itales Given Over Telephone and dortt f fbrqetthe / 'essitak ^ -CAKBTBR^SERVWa- ^ $ I purposely made my tone em phatic, and Leila uttered no demur. But I guessed that khe was restive and I was as glad as I was surprised upon turning the key In the lock of the apartment hall door to find the living room door partly ajar, to sniff the odor of Dicky's favorite tobacco, and to ftnd both Alfred and Dicky smoking as If their lives depended up on their finjshing their cigars at a certain second. Both men sprang to their feet but neither showed any surprise at our entrance. Instead Dicky said aston ishingly: “We thought you never were com ing. We've been watting an hour.”' “But how did you know we were coming here instead of to the hospi tal?" “Deduction, as practiced by a great mind, little one,” Dicky answered airily. "My illustrious brother-in-law turned Alf out five minutes after they reached the hospital, and he, being lonesome telephoned me. I at once brought up the heavy artillery and inquired after the aviation corps—” “If you refer to us,” I interrupted, drawing myself up in pretended dig nified offence, and taking the cue of nonsense which Dicky had thrown to pie. "I wish to announce right now that the altitude ascensions in our respective families are made by the masculine, not the feminine mem bers.” “Listen to her, will you?" Dicky de manded dramatically of Alfred. “Where does she get that stuff? Any way, madam, you interrupted me; but I suppose you want the conver sation along strictly feminist lines. All right, then. Harriet's husband told Leila's husband to get to—Chi cago—out of there, and Leila's hus band told your husband that Kath erine's husband's wife told him you were to keep—that you two were to clear up things and lock up the house. Your husband, having been married to you for some time, knows that after any exertion, you simply must have your cup of tea. made in your especial fashion, so—your hus band told Leila's husband—" For a Cleaner Omaha Ozark Lump Boyer uan iruRAR Lumber ■ and I* Coal Co. If your deductive mind is working so smoothly, it's a wonder you wouldn't have had the tea ket tle on for us. Come, Leila, let's leave these two by themselves. They’re hopeless.” "Why do women marry?” Dicky sent the words after us In a squeak ing falcetto, which brought a half hearted laugh even from Leila. I realized, thankfully, that she had not noticed the slip of speech by which Dicky so nearly had betrayed Katlr erine's ruse to keep her away from the hospital. "I wonder when we are to see mother," Leila asked worriedly as I started the cold water tap arid filled the tea kettle. "I fancy some time In the early evening," I answered. "Suppose we don't worry about it now. I won der if those boys would like a cup of tea." "I’ll ask them," Della volunteered and returned in a few seconds, look ing a little more like her normal, cheery self. “They said nothing doing in the tea line,” she reported, "and Dicky issued instructions not to drink too much tea, for they are going to take us out to an early dinner before we go to the hospital. 1 feel like any thing rather than going, but Alfred says I must, that I look like a ghost.” I gave an unconscious little sigh as I saw how quickly her drooping spir its had revived with the tonic of her husband’s solicitude. She was so ab solutely dependent upon him for her happiness, almost for her life. Would he ever fail her?
