Gareless Potato Grading Blamed for Weak Market Omaha Commission Men Re fute Charges of Discrimin ation Made lty Dawes County Farmers. More careful grading of potatoes h> Nebraska potato growers will open up and help to establish one of the strongest markets in the west for the sale of Nebraska grown potatoes, neeording to Omaha commission men, who were Interviewed yesterday by ,T. M. Oillan, manager of the Industrial bureau of the Omaha Chamber of <' unmerre. Practically every Omaha dealer re futed charges alleged to have been ma te some time ago by Dawes coun tv farmers that from S5 to 00 per c-nt of potatoes consumed in Omaha v ote grown outside of ©Nebraska. Some of the dealers complained that N"braska potatoes were not graded os carefully as Minnesota potatoes, but in cases where they were, they would rather handle the home grown product than those from other states. Hut in spite of this fact, they had handled large quantities of Nebraska grown potatoes. Robert Trimble of Trimble Bros., said that his company was glad to handle Nebraska potatoes and could have handled larger volumes had the Nebraska growers been willing to take what they were worth on the market, lie said growers had been shipping direct to consumers in Omaha from Crawford, Neb., and ^hey had demanded $1.15 a hundred weight and the commission men de clared that competition from ad jacent states was too strong to per mit holding the market to that figure. R. M. Tyson, B. Blotcky and J. M. Bouda all spoke highly of Nebraska grown potatoes. Mr. Blotcky de clared that from 60 to 75 per cent of all potatoes he handled this season were home grown. The J. Tyson declared that liud Ne braska growers graded their product more carefully, they could have cfitn ‘peted more favorably with potato growers of Minnesota and North Da kota. because of the necessity of longer shipments to the Omaha mar ket. In spite of the longer ship ment, he declared the foreign grown potatoes were more reasonable in price than the home product. The agricultural bureau of the Chamber of Commerce Is endeavoring to call immediate attention, to Ne braskans, urging them to lay in their winter supply of potatoes now and to purchase Nebraska grown pota toes by the bushel lather than by the peck-. Miss Kva Dold, and a verdlst of $35,Ann was won by another sister, Mrs. ('l ira Brunke. Negotiations are slill pend ing in a case brought last fall by a nephew, (leorge F. Dold. The plaintiff alleges that Mr. Do'd bought up the stock held by his brothers and sisters in the J. C. Dold Packing company at a price below its value, by misrepresenting to them the financial condition of the com pany. Shortly after the stock had been arquired, according to the plain tiff's allegations, the company gave evidence of being in a flourishing financial condition with the stock worth much more than Mr. Dold had paid for it.
