Is Poor Time to Sell But Good Time to Buy ** Central City, Oct. 28.—One of the strongest boosters for Central City tmcl Merrick county and a leading real Psthte dealer here, Is Martin A. I,arson, who Is trying to discourage soiling of farm lands and is making no effort to secure listings except in cases whero it is felt that the land absolutely has to ho disposed of. "Now is no time to sell,” asserts Mr. Larson, "but It surely must be a good time to buy." Larson has no use for the pessimist who hangs around the street corners and grum bles about hard times and poor crops. He says that two years ago when corn was selling for two hits a bushel these pessimists were stationed around the streets, handing out some free ad vice, telling fanners that they'd bet ter sell their corn and that it would n’t be worth anything again—‘it's sure going down to 10c.’ "Some of these same parasites are handing out this same line of bunk about land prices today.” says Larson, "when we know and they know, that every dollar they have made, was made out of good old Nebraska land.’' Sunday Schools to Meet in Richardson County Stella, Neb., Oct. 28.—The Richard son County Sunday School association will hold its annual meeting In Falls City November 1 and 2. Special Dispatch to The Omaha Dee. Lincoln, Oct. 28.—Western Nebras ka bankers do not appreciate the value, to them, of the Federal Inter mediate Credit bank, according to C. G. Steward, director of the Nebraska Farm Bureau federation, who recent ly attended a meeting with officers of the new government institution. In his opinion, the credit bank can be used to supplement the local bank, by handling production loans, whot'h are made for long periods of time, while the local bank attends to short time paper, negotiated to enable farm ers to hold their grain or to finance feeding yards. ‘‘The country banker can make per cent on transactions with the credit bank,” he said, ‘‘and their working capital is placed where it should be, In loans that mature rap idly- With the credit bank they can handle customers who want long time loans to buy stock or farm equip ment, and still get the rapid turnover that comes with the short-time note. Association Necessary. "Farmers can borrow from the credit bank If they form a credit as sociation, but the bank demands that $10,000 be put up by members of the association and this is more than the majority of fanners can stand at this time. The logical place to put credit bank loans is through the local banker, who knows what moral risk Is involved and is, in general, in bet ter shape to negotiate the loans than a credit association. “If Nebraska bankers can be made to realize that the credit bank Is not going to injure them, but really as sist them, then the farmer will get the true benefit of the credit bank. The bankers is, or should be, just as much interested in the prosperity of the farmer as the farmer himself, because upon the success of farm products df pends his success or failure, and if the banker can help the farmer by getting lower rates of Interest on pro duction loans, he will be helping him self at the same time.” Warehouse Receipts Collateral. The real value of the announcement that the credit bank will consider warehouse receipts as good collateral, said Mr. Steward. Is that country bankers will be more willing to lend money on grain stored in inspected warehouses. “If the country bankers know that they can always get their money If they have to have it, by turning over warehouse receipts to the credit bank,” he said, “they w“Hl much more f-eadily lend to the farmer who wants to hold his grain." Mr. Steward did not feel that di rect plncing by farmers of warehouse receipts in the credit bank would he the general practice, because, al though 7-per cent Is charged as op posed to a general rate in Nebraska of 10 per cent, the credit bank re quires that the note negotiated be for -six months and cannot be taken up until six months have expired. ‘‘The majority of farmers,” he ex plained, ‘‘do not desire to hold their grain six months, and hence hesitate to turn over title to the credit bank for that period. This was discussed at the Omaha meeting and the pro vision may be changed, though I am in no position to state what the ac tion of the credit bank oflcials will be.” BEE CLASSIFIED AD RATES 15c p.r line each day, 1 or ; day., 12c per line each day, 3 nr 6 days. 10c per line each day, 7 days or longer.
