‘Spanish Prisoner' Confidence, Game Crooks Arrested Barcelona, Sept. 27.—Men, who for many years have been working what has come to be known as the "Spanish prisoners” confidence game have been am«ted by the po lice. For many years these swindlers have been flooding the world with heart rending letters 6f appeal in behalf of fictitious prisoners who are represented as requesting fi nancial assistance so that they may pay their fines and obtain posses sion of valuable hidden treasure. The swindle had been carried out on a huge scale, not less than 50 000 letters having been dispatched from Barcelona in a single year by a large staff of secretaries em ployed by the band. The police confiscated carefully kept files of the names and ad dresses of persons from whom money might be obtained. The au thorities sai^ that this record was the most elaborate work of Its kind ever compiled. Among those apprehended were two employes of the Barcelona Telegraph office. Child to Return to America.
