Wife Leaves Note, Spo use Finds Her I Shot by Haystack Grand Island Farmer Discov ers Mate Wounded, With Revolver at Side—De spondency Is Blamed. Special Dispatch to The Omaha Bee. Grand Island, Neb,, Sept. 12.—Mrs. Thomas Hostler. 36, wife of a farmer living four miles west of the city, •was found by her husband near a • •haystack with tw* bullet wounds In • •her body and a revolver at her side. She was rushed to a hospital here, where an operation was performed. The bullets had shattered the ribs and one of them grazed the heart. Hopes for her recovery are enter tained. A note left by the woman Indicated despondency. There are no children. Humboldt Has Festival and 50th Anniversary Humboldt, Neb., Sept. 12.—The Humboldt fall festival and semi-cen tennial of the city opened Wednesday and will continue Thursday and Fri day. This is the third annual fall festival and the attendance Is the largest yet. Pens have been placed on the streets adjoining the city park for the livestock. The usual conces sions are on hand. To give the occasion more of the spirit of the 50th anniversary of the city, the merchants have opened their Show windows for all kinds of articles 50 years old or more. M. E. Church at Red Cloud Asks Return of Pastor Bed Cloud. Neb., Sept. 12—The official board of the Red Cloud Methodist church has requested the conference to return the present pas tor, Rev. H. W. Cope, to this charge. Rev. Cop* is completing his fourth year here. This Is longer than anj previous pastor ever served this church since Its organization. Rev. Cope came here from Polk, Neb. The district superintendent has Indicated that the church's request will probably be granted. Two Boys Hurt When Auto Collides With Bicycle frails City, Neb., Sept. 12.—Bobby Myers, 8, was knocked unconscious and severely hurt and his chum. Dude, Yount, 10, injured so seriously that h* is in the Falla City hospital as a result of being thrown from a bicycle on which both were riding when they collided with a car driven by Fred Farrington. Marshal Tacoma, Wash., Sept. 12.—Tyree Taylor, former deputy 1'nlted States marshal at Memphis, Term., has been recommended for a parole from McNeil Island penitentiary, it was learned here today. The recommenda tion of the federal parole board has been sent to Attorney General Dauffh erty for action. Taylor, sentenced to three years for accepting bribes In connection with the entrance of liquor into Tennessee, was moved to McNeil island after having served short periods at the Atlanta and Leavenworth peniten tiaries. It is said his life was threatened at both places as an out growth of his trial in which he turned states evidence and gave testimony that convicted a number of Memphis citizens. Taylor has served a year of his sentence and now is a “trusty' at the prison. State Sheriff Quizzes Bank Robber Suspects Lincoln, Sept. 12.—State Sheriff Thomas Carroll went to Fremont to day and questioned two men detained there by Sheriff Condit of Dodge county as suspects in the recent rob beries of banks at Beaver Crossing and Walton. The cashiers of the banks were also summoned in an ef fort to identify the two and on their decision will probably depend the holding of the men. Burglars Visit Farm Hon^e and Steal $200 in Loot Falls City, Neb., Sept. 12.—The farm home of John Jones, one mile south of the Kansas Nebraska state line, was robbed during the family's absence, loot valued at $200 being taken, according to word received by Sheriff Albert R. Special Dispatch to The Omaha Boe. North Platte,, Neb., Sept. 12—The Lincoln county grand jury, which re convened Monday, hag returned eight additional indictmentg agalnat former County Treasurer S. M. Souder. Six of these are for alleged forgery of du plicate tax receipts. It Is charged that the original re ceipts were issued in substantial amounts while the duplicates, which are kept In the office, were so “doc tored” as to show a different name and a very small amount. In one in Miss O. Yoast, was instantly killed when he got caught in a drive shaft at a local elevator. Livestock Judging Team Will Go to Sioux City Red Cloud. Neb., Sept. 12.—County Agent Fausch will leave Saturday for Sioux City, la., taking the Webster county livestock judging team to the Interstate fair. This team, composed of Earl Portenier of Guide Rock. Al fred Sommerfelt of Blue Hill and Cecil Means of Red Cloud, won first at the Nebraska state fair, and is also to represent Nebraska at the livestock show at Kansas City and the Inter national show at Chicago. Specimens exhibited today showed the potatoes large and well de veloped and the tomatoes below normal site, but well formed. The gardener by whom the speci mens were grown had planted pota toes on one side of his cottage and tomatoes on the other. He credited bees from a nearby hive with hav ing grafted the pollena.
