Aug. 23.—Thomas Edison today denied reports that he was seriously ill, but said he was enjoying his outing in upper Michi gan with Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone. He sprained a finger on his right hand in adjusting the wind shield of the party’s car. which kept him from shaking hards wdth the throngs who met the party on ar rival, but since then has autographed 300 newspapers for admirers, which. he says, proves that the linger is well again. "Shut the muddy deluge from your house—• "Drain all water from the plumb ing and heating systems and do not turn the water 1 again until It his again become usable— “And thereby save gigantic plumb ing bills this winter." That Is warning of Omaha plumb ers, who already are flooded with calls as result of the two-day Influx nf the Missouri river Into Omaha bathroom and kitchen plumbing. V. Grunwald, prominent Omaha plumber, last night declared that un less the present supply of city water is shut off at the entrance to resi dences and places of business It will settle in heating system pipes and receptacles and when heat Is applied will cake and the entire system will he crippled If not destroyed. “Many places of business and resi dences are taking no chances," said Grunwuld, ‘‘blit are shutting off the supply from tho street. Twenty per cent of our calls yesterday were for the purpose of shutting off the sup* ply. If that Is done promptly and no heat Is used under boilers until the system has been flushed by clari fied water, promised within a few days by Utilities District officials, a great loss may be averted.” C. L, Rodstrum, plumber of North Omaha, warned against using gis heaters during the present mud de luge. "Heat applied tinder water boilers will dot only cake the mud and stop the vents, but will also cause the boilers to explode, causing greater damage,” he said. Until late into the night the volun teers who responded to the call of The Omaha Ree, carried the precious liquid to those who needed it and were without means of getting It to their homes. More than one faintly called back and thanked teh newspaper after th* waier nud been brought to their doort.
