American Tourists Discover Charms of Rio de Janeiro P.lo de Janeiro. July 28.—Never In any previous year haa Rio de Janeiro had as many North American "Visitors as In the last six months. In addi tion to full passenger lists on the regular steamers from New Vork. there have been several special tourist steamers In port. In previous years almost all North Americana coming to Brazil were on business missions, whereas this year the majority have been sightseers. Visitors of this kind frona other coun tries are extremely few, compared to the North Americans. - The centennial exposition, which undoubtedly was the magnet attract ing the tourists, has occupied but lit tle 6f their tint*. After a fdSr'Wirrled visits to the exposition grounds, the visitors have given their attention to the clty'e many other attractions. Judging from their conversation* while here In the years to follow there will be many North American tourists In Brazil who previously had spent their leisure time In Europe. ' Although the state of siege, origi nally decreed at the time of the mili tary revolt last July, Is still In effect, there Is nothing to Indicate this fact to the visitor, and he goes on his way without Interference of any kind un-1 ItM on* of hi* cablegram* happens to b* held up by th* cantor. -- » Former Mail Man Here. 1 William I.
