Leviathan Lid Down on Hip Rum Passengers Who Had Liquor With Meals Told Rum to Be Confiscated. Aboard the Leviathan, July 9.—The Leviathan was perhaps the dryest spot on the Atlantic ocean last night. The lid has been clamped down and the passengers are now prohibited from having alcoholic beverages in the dining saloon and the Hits Carl ton restaurant. Several notables aboard who Satur day night had champagne, cocktails and highballs served from their pri vate supplies while at dinner, were Informed that all intoxicants dis played In the dining room, as well as In all other public romp*. would be confiscated. The restaurant management Is be ing held strictly accountable for the rigid enforcement of the Volstead act. Captain Hartley has refused to take part In any race across the Atlantic. Answering a challenge from the cap tain of the Mauretania, Captain Hart ley said: “Speed with safety only Is our object." Because of the tremendous success of the showing of Marlon Davies in “Little Old New York,” when more than 800 people attempted to crowd into a room accommodating half that number. Captain Hartley gave his consent to a second screening of the film on the promenade deck Satur day night, resulting In an enthusias tic ovation for the play and the star. lAk’ Membership Nears 4,700; Golfers and Iowans Guests The Ak-Sar-Ben membership ap proached the 4,700 mark yesterday. Charles Gardner, secretary, said that but five members are needed to reach ^that number. "Natural growth will bring in more than five members by the time the show starts at the Den tonight,’’ de clared Gardner. The golfers who are here for the Nebraska championship golf tourna ment and booster organizations of northwestern Iowa were the guests at the Den last night. Rail Manager Dies. He Is survived hy a widow and four sons. U. S. Grain Exports. Washington. Tho*<* busy with their family car* Know little how a neighbor fares. —Carol the Meadow Lark. Wliat Had Become of Danny Meadow Mouse. Peter Rabbit hurried over to a fence poat on which sat Carol the M'adow Lark. "Hello, Peteri’’ ex claimed Carol. "What have you on your mind this morning?" ‘‘Danny Meadow Mouse," replied Peter promptly. "Have you seen him lately, Carol?” Carol shook his head. "Now you speak of it, I haven't," said he. “The fact is, I hadn't thought about him. VfeUo. P«f " MclftimH Carol. “What navn vou on your mind thin mornlnt?" *-«^rs. Meadow Lark and I have been too buajr with our own family af fairs to pay much attention to our neighbors. I guess you won't have to look far to ftrtd him." "I've looked everywhere that I can think of,” replied Peter, "and I haven't found a trace of Danny or Nanny. I found their old home, but, to judge by the looks of It, no one has lived in It for some time.” •‘You don't say!” exclaimed Carol. "I hope nothing has happened to Danny or Nanny. Now I think of it, I remember Reddy spent a great deal of time hunting around here awhile ago. There's Bubbling Bob the Bobolink over yonder. Perhaps he knows something of Danny.” Peter promptly hurried over to ask Bubbling Bob If he had seen anything of Danny or Nanny Meadow Mouse. "Not a thing." replied Bub bling Bob promptly. "I haven't seen them since shortly sfter my return front the Bunny South. What are you looking for them for?” “Just to make sure they are alive,” replied Peter. "I haven't been able to find them anywhere, and T am afraid something has happened to them.” "Goodness, I hope not!” replied Bubbling Bob. looking very serious. "1 hadn't thought much about It be fore, but Reddy Fox and Mrs. Reddy spent a long time hunting on the Green Meadows a while ago. You don’t suppose they could have caught * Danny and Nanny?” "1 don't want to think so,” re plied Peter sadly. "I'm trying not to think so. But I've looked every where I can think of for them, and I can't find them.” “I'll help you look,” replied Bub bling Bob promptly. "If I find any trace of them I'll let you know." "Thank* you,” replied Peter, and started on. Presently Peter met Jimmy Skunk. "What are you looking so worried, about. Peter," Jimmy asked. Yod know he never lets anything worry him. • “I’m worying about Danny and Nanny Meadow Mouse," said Peter. "I started to make a call on them this morning and couldn't find them. I've looked everywhere amt I can't find any trace of them. Carol the Meadow Lark says he hasn't seen them for some time. Bubbling Bob the Bobolink says the same thing. Do you know what has become of them, Jimmy Skunk?” Peter looked at .Jimmy suspiciously when he said this. It had just poped into his funny little head that Jimmy Skunk was reported to have a liking for a Meadow Mouse dinner. Jimmy promptly Bhook his head. "I haven't seen them this spring,” said he. And Peter knew, by the way he said it, that Jimmy was tell ing the truth. (Copyright, 1923. bV T. W.
