O’Neill, Neb., July 6.—Children at play along tho Elkliorn river on the Strong ranch west of Emmet found a skull having portions of the scalp with long black hair, and an ear at tached. A badly corroded earring pf coiled copper wire still was at tached to the ear. - Further investigation by the au thorities located a grave In“The bank ‘of the river, which had been exposed by recent high water. A copper ring .was found on one of the finger bones ift the grave. i Soil Indications are that the skele Jton is that of a race possibly antedat ing the Indian. Beatrice, Neb,, July 6.—John D ['White, alias George Frazer, and D. tR Hilton, brought hack from Lincoln .where bertillon measurements were taken, waived preliminary to the charge of gun toting and were bound over to the district court. The pair were arrested at Wymore, Neb., as .they stepped front a train. They had a Targe amount of jewelry and were armed with revolvers. . O ’tcers say one had confessed to a ‘robbery at Lead, S. D. Voman Has Second Son by Caesarian Operation DUputch to The Omaha Bee. ‘olumbus. Neb.. July 6.—For the ■"second time in IS months, Mrs. W. C. Kei lln gave birth to a baby following a caesarian operation. The first, a •hoy alive and healthy, was born a ♦year and a half ago. A six-pound son arrived safely in the same way. L>rs. F. II. Morrow and W. R. Neu marker performed the operations in St. Mary hospital, and the police pul meter was used to assist the infant ’ill acquiring normal respiration. -* 100 Degrees at Columbus Special Dispatch to Tli# Omaha Bcc. The car ran into a ditch but jl>to one was hurt. W. H. Murray Named New Passenger Agent W.M /(array AV. H. Murray, newly appointed gen eral passenger agent of the Uniop Pacific system, is one of the country's best known railroad men. His promo tion from assistant general passenger agent was announced yesterday. Man Lying on Track Killed by Freight Special Dispatch to Th« Omaha Bee. Rulo, Neb.. July 6.—Raymond Marehum. 30, a laborer of Rulo. was killed Instantly Thursday night when he was struck by a freight train while walking the Burlington tracks near the Kansas state line. He leaves a wife and family in Rulo. He had been shocking wheat on the Ailie Moorehouse farm three miles south of Rulo. He became overheated Thursday and started home afoot that evening. It is said he had been sunstruck at a previous time. Tile man is thought to have falen asleep or became un conscious. His head was pillowed on a rail when struck by the engine. The engineer did not see Marehum on account of rounding a curve and the headlight glare causing the weeds In the track to cast heavy shadows. The body is in charge of George O'Camb of Rulo. the Richardson county coroner. Five Men of Omaha, ^iork Gang Killed p Eighteen Injured in Wreck ofJ Milwaukee Fast Freight Train in Illinois. Rockford, 111., July 6.—Five men are dead and IS injured as a result of the derailment of a Chicago, .IIH waukee & St. Paul fast freight train at Fall-dale, 10 miles east of Davis Junction, at 5:30 p. in. yesterday, ac cording to members of a relief train which brought 11 of the more sorious yl wounded to hospitals here. All were members of a work, gang which had been working between Leaf river and Davis Junction and which was being transferred into Chicago. The gang originally came from Omaha. The wreck was caused by a broken rail. Thirty-five cars, several con taining livestock, went into tlie ditch. Traffic on the Omaha main line was blocked. Victims of the wreck were riding cars in the center of the train. None of the train crew was Injured. The dead Include Walter Reeves, 27, Omaha. Seriously injured in Rockford hos pitals include; John O. Houck, 23, San Francisco, fractured skull, inter nal injuries, condition critical, ami K. R. Wood. L’6. Salt Rake City, frac tured skull, right leg twisted nearly, off and possible internal injuries. Two Heltl in Connection With Kansas Shooting Special OKpalrli to The Omalm Hee. Beatrice, Xeb., July 6.—Two men giving the names of Gross and Burns were picked up here in connection with the holdup anil wounding of a grocer named Francis at Manhattan Kan.. Friday morning. They were driving a car when taken Into cus tody. Gross and Burns admit they were at Manhattan when the shooting oc curred and told the officers they were standing in front of a garage when Francis, holding liis hands on his head and side, ran out of his store seriously wounded.
