Davis’ Ouster Will Be Probed by Congress Reclamation Service to Come Under Scrutiny When Six State Treaty Is Presented. By GEORGE F. AUTH1ER. Special Dispatch to The Omaha Bee. Washington, June 26.—The entire reclamation program of the United States Is expected to come under congressional scrutiny In the next session because of the ouster of ArthurPowell Davis as head of the reclamation service. The congres sional investigation is expected to result from the presentation to con gress of the six-state treaty nego tiated by Herbert Hoover, secretary of commerce. Involving California, Utah, Nevada. Colorado, New Mex ica, and Arizona. This pact, yhich arranges for the distribution of power and water from Colorado river, must be approved by congress. The removal of Davis is believed by his supporters to have been brought about because of his in sistence that the government and not private parties should develop Colo rado river projects. Secretary Work's office intimates Davis was dismissed because, he was too Insistent upon receiving pay ments from settlers on irrigation projects who have been going through some hard times, along with the rest of the farming community. Davis takes the position that if payments are not kept up the re volving fund for the continuation of reclamation projects will become ex hausted nnd that congress will re fuse to appropriate more money.
