University of Nebraska Track Team Likely to Have Real Tussle in Contest With Kansans 1 Huskers and Haskell Indians Meet Saturday Dual Track Mvct Will Be Pre i liminary to State High School (Classic at Lincoln. Ity TKACKSTER. ft has been two years since Haskell Indians have met a University of Ne braska track team. On May 14, 1921, they had a disastrous session with Schulte's men at Lincoln* The final score was 1110 5-6 to 25 1-6. Those were great days for Huskcr weight men. Fred Dale heaved the shot 43 feet 6>i inches, Moulton hurled the platter 126 feet 10 inches, and Car men sent the javelin sailing for a mark of 169 feet 9 iprhes. With Ed Smith and Deeslng in the dashes. Kretzler in the two-mile, McDonald and Stromer in the quarter, and with the peerless Floyd Wright in the hur dles, Schulte had a Valley champion ship team. But Captain Allen. Lear. Turner, Gardner, Slemmons, Hatch, Crites, Lloyd and Noble make up a still greater team, and we expect them to win from Haskell next Sat urday at Lincoln. l4»st week they came through and boat Kansas, who were doped as fa vorites. Delving into records wc learn that Schulte's Missouri anh Nebraska learns have met Kansas 16 times in ’ dual meets. Except for one time— In 1914 outdoors—the Jayhawk has bohr-d to a Schulte-trained, n Schulte directed and a Schulte-inspired team. Kansas university won't "own the valley" while Schulte retains his health. Little is known of Haskell this year. Wc have seen no accounts of dual meets. There are a few per formances of the Indians, however, that make us sit up and take notice, i Here is what the Indians have done* to date: At tile Ivans’ss Relays. Kipp placed second In the high hurdles. Erkins placed third in the broad lump. Placed between Hatch, Ne braska. and Norton. Kansas. Auge won the discus with a mark of 132 feet Ift-1* Inches. Elkins tied with Hartley, Nebraska, j for fourth in the javelin. At tlie Drake Relays. Auge placed third in the discus witty a mark of 132 feet 4'* inches. At the Penn Relays. Klkins placed third In the Penta thalon. He made marks of 21 feet -'k inches in the broad jump; 150 feet 5’i inches in the javelin; was ■econd in the 1.500-meter run and tied for sixth In the 200-meter run. While we feel sure that Indian j Schulte's squad have the Indian- sign on Haskell, still we have a lot of re spect for their prowess on the track ; and field and we foretell a real meet next Saturday morning when Husker and flaskcll tangle.
