These ad dresses may be regarded, it was said today in administration quarters, as the opening guns in the worli5 court fight which now seems certain to hold doivn the ^ilitical boards during the approaching Summer. The speeches of both the president and the secretary of state will be di rected principally to members of their own party who have not hesitated to condemn In vigorous fashion the Harding-Hughes-Hoover International program. Those republican irreeoncilables who have publicly expressed their fears that entering the league court means eventually entering the league of nations itself through the "back door” will be assured by Mr. Harding that his position with regard to tlie league is unchanged. The line of di vision between the league and the league court will be sharply marked out and emphasized. Crude Oil Price Cut. Independence. Depew Gives Health Secret “Speeches Keep Me Feeling Like a Coll,” Noted Poli tician and Executive Says. By Universal Service New York, April 22.—Cttaum ey M. Depew, ot\ tile eve of his SOth birth day, told the secret of his perpetual health. % “Forget your business and worry at sunset, devote yourself to your hobby until bedtime and you will never grow old,” said the former sen ator and railroad executive. "My hobby has been speechmaking. 1 have 12 volumes of speeches made by me. That Is not all of them. But they have been the best doctors and nurses a man ever had. “I have been in politics 70 years. They are much cleaner than when I entered the field. You have honest elections today. You had crooked elections when I began lookirfg for political advancement.” Wilson Cannot ‘‘Come Hack. He was talking on Ms favorite subject now and continued: “Woodrow Is too physically inca pable to come back, either as presi dent or leader of his party. 1 would not attempt to predict who the demo crats will nomipate as president. Jo sephus Daniels says it will be Me Adoo? Daniels thinks he is a poli tician. "President Harding has made good. He will be renominated and re elected if prosperity continues and it looks as though it might. He has been greatly handicapped by a lead eriesB congress, with too many repub lican members. The next congress will contain too few republicans. That means there will be blocs that will plague both parties. "Sly prediction is that any pdrty which declares in its platform for 'dry' or 'wet' cannot elect its candi dates. Both parties will declare for enforcement of the law. They will dodge the real issue. That will leave the people where they are. Against league of Nations. "I am in favor of Harding's plan for an international court arbitration. I am ngainst the league of nations. "The world court Is a suggestion of my own. Twenty-seven years ago 1 urged it in a speech before the bar association of this state. The associ ation urged Washington to adopt the plan." After he had talked of the old days and the great men he had met, some one saked him if he had tried any of the new processes of rejuvenation. He laughed and said: "No glands or new-fangled nos trums of any kind are responsible for my excellent physical and mental con dition. Neither haa it been aided by Conan Doyle's spirits. I tried spiritu alism once. They told me I was not a good subject. My problems hav.e been solved by the teachings and memory of my mother. All great crises In my life have been solved more easily by prayer." ’ * * -— | In Europe there is an excess of fo,000,000 women. A Queer World “Lie Detector” Bares Cheat ing by California U.
