Harding Invited to Attend Elks Club Festivities Forty Lodges of Two States to Participate in Biggest B. P. O. E. Event in History of Omaha. "Purple and White” day sat aside by l the Elks as May 26, when the corner ' stone of the Elks building will be laid, will be a day of one of the big gest and most Inspiring events and parades in the history of Oma ha, according to Otto Nielsen, sec retary. President Harding has been invit ed to be here on that day. It Is believed he mlgiht be able to ar range his Itinerary to include Omaha then. Imitations are being sent out to the IS Nebraska lodges of Elks and many surrounding town in Iowa. It is expected that 40 lodges will take part in the festivities. Mayor J. C. Dahlman will Issue a proelamtion requesting business houses to decorate their places of business May 26 In honor of Elkdoni and that all Elks be allowed to ab sent themselves from business to par ticipate in the event. 1,000 Cars in Parade. It is expected that 1,000 automobiles will be driven in the parade, all of which will be decorated in purple and white. All marchers in the parade will carry flags. Members of the reception commit Mr 'ee are Everett E. Buckingham, chair man; C. E. Black and Raymond G. Young. This committee will have en tire charge of reception and enter tainment of J. E. Masters, grand ex alted ruler, and his party, as well as state officers. Member^ of the parade committee are Robert Trimble, W. W. Holler and T. P. Redmond. This committee will > arrange for hands, automobiles, and all details of the parade. In the par ade it is planned to have the Elks band. Shenandoah Elks hand. Amer ican Region. High school, Bov Scouts, Twentieth infantry band of Fort Crook, four of five bands from out in tlte state, and several Omaha Viands. Other committees are: Committee on finances, Thomas F. Quinlan, Wil liam Keane and Raymond C. Young; » cornerstone committee, Gus Renze. \ .1. C. Dahlman and George West. Frolic to End Event. On the evening of May 26, the mammoth spring frolic sponsored by the Elks, will close at the Auditorium. This frolic opens May IS. A Cadillac,. BViicit and Reo car will be given away on that night. One Bid Received for Soldiers’ Bonus Bonds Des Moines, la., April 1".—A sixth attempt to get bids for Iowa's $22,000,000 soldiers' bonus bonds failed to get a response from buyers this afternoon and tlie sale was ad journed until tomorrow morning. But one bid has been received. State Treasurer Burbank says it will not he opened until tomorrow after other buyers expected here from the east have had an opportunity to make bids. Local bond ipen are of the opinion that the state will be compelled to increase the Interest rate. The bonds now offered would bear 41, per cent interest and. under the bonus law, must be sold at par. Palmer Farmer Attacked by Bull, Seriously Hurt Special Itlspatch to The Omaha Dec. Grand Island, Neb., April 17.— George Zuehlke, farmer residing four miles from Palmer, was seriously in jured Monday by a vicious bull. He was assisting in the chores when the animal attacked him. But for the assistance of a dog, which ran at and frightened the ani mal, It is believed Zuehlke would have been killed. Zuehlke’s injuries consist of three broken ribs and had lacerations about the head. Ttyj farmer’s condition is reported to be serious. Dead Woman's Mate Sought. County officials are trying to find the husband of Mrs. Amber O. Me Alpin, 33. who died Monday night at a local hospital. Vote WOAW Silent Every Wednesday Radio Fans Register Prefer ence for Quiet Night—Pro gram for Thursday. i - Local and middle west radio fans j will be interested in know ing the re : suit of the contest held by the Wood men of the World to determine which night would be officially designated as "silent night" for broadcasting station WOAW. The vote ran <,822 for Wednesday night with Monday night running 2, 151. Remainder of the vote, which [totaled over 10,000, was equally dls ' tributed between the other days. Radio fans who will listen in to WOAW Thursday evening, April 19, will be offered a treat in Jazz music and vocal selections. Arrangements have been completed for renditions by the Fontenelle orchestra and the Empress Garden orchestra. By spe cial arrangement a receiving set will be installed in the Empress Garden and the dan<-e music will be sent through the air and received at the garden so that the followers of ter pisehore will be able to indulge in their favorite steps. Mr. Frank Peterson of tho Rose land Gardens will sing several popu lar melodies. The program will be held under the auspices of the United States National hank and promises to he one of the best yet.
