Colonial Stock r Used to Buy Auto fitness Says Mrs. Sunderland Didn’t Want Husband to Know. Mrs. Ralph Sunderland, wife of one Of the defendants In the Colonial Timber case In federal court, hur ried from her seat with the specta tors Tuesday to reach the side of David Fitch, one of the attorneys for the defendants to aid him in question ing a witness. Mrs. Sunderland prompted Attorney Fitch with a firm voice that carried across the courtroom. Attorneys, rep lepresenting thousands of dollnrs in fees, smiled as she fired question after question to Fitch. Carl Changstrom. head of the West rott Motor company, was the witness. He testified that ho accepted 25 shares Of Guaranty Security com pany stock as part payment In the sale of an automobile. “Mrs. Sunderland purchased the car,” ha testified. “She said she hud 25 shares of the stock and wanted to turn them over to me withoyt the knowledge of her husband. She said the stock was very valuable." Mr. Changstrom testified that he saw Mr. Sunderland and concluded the deal. There was a twitter in the court room when Changstrom testified Sun derland told him the stock would pay 10 per cent and was worth more than i+ $150 a share. "Did the stock ever pay you a dividend?” asked Special Prosecutor Dorsey. "No,” replied Changstrom. “I have the stock and Mrs. Sunderland has the car.” Volumes of minutes of the Timber company and the Guaranty Security company were read by District At torney Kinsler and Dorsey in order to show the connections between the two companies and in order to show how promotion was started before the company had any titles to the West Virginia land. Woman Struck by Auto Dies of Injuries She Sustained Special Dispatch to The Omaha Hee. Aurora, Neb., April 11.—Mr. P. W. Marvel, 72, died early today from in juries received when struck by a car driven by James Broadsent. Mr. and Mrs. Marvel were walking on the pavement and were not seen by the driver until close to them. Mrs. Marvel's skull was fractured and a leg broken. The Marvels were planning to celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary this fall. Always sweep rugs the way the nap runs. She Will Show How to Tie and Dye Silks Miss Don Bonner. Miss Don Bonner of the Alaililin Soap company will give free instruc tion to school children in tying and dyeing silks Thursday and Friday aft ernoons from 4 to 5 in the Burgess Nash auditorium. She has been here two weeks, demonstrating before va rious bodies. The pieces of batik which she has made will be offered for sale In the Burgess-Nush store Saturday. Des Moines. la., April 11.—Women leaders of the nation, meeting in their second day of the fourth annual con vention of the National League of Women Voters, relegated to secondary place the business of the league and discussed the sweeping decision of the United States supreme court of the minimum wage law in the District of Columbia was unconstitutional. Mary Anderson, chief of the women's bureau of the Department of Labor, was pessimistic as to the "future progress of the country in the light of reactionary decisions of the supreme court.” “This decision,” she said, "marks the return of America to those days when girls were working for lit a week.” "Only one remedy presents itself," said Miss Alice K. McFarland, direc tor of the women's work under the Kansas court of Industrial relations, "and that Is that women organize j into trade unions. "The netion of tho Bupreme court ia a calamity. It will increuse strikes ond Industrial unrest. How wages will increase immorality and retard progress.’’ Escaped Asylum Inmate Picked Up by Salesman Special Dispatch to The Omaha lice, Fremont, Neb., April 10.—Charles Voss, 45, escaped Inmate from the state asylum at Norfolk, Is safe lit.1 the hands of local officials, awaiting representatives of the institution to escort him back to that city. Voss was picked up by a traveling sales man while he was walking Into Fre mont. On the way into town, Voss’ eon 1 vercation drifted into so many dif ferent channels without warning that the salesman became suspicious. Ho turned Voss over to the police when they arrived in the city. The latter explained that he was hound for Fremont, where he expected to meet his daughter, who was coming from Chicago by airplane. The re union, he said, was to be held in the city park. Further questioning re vealed that he belonged to the state hospital at Norfolk. They Are Here!
