Federal Agent Held Prisoner .With Radicals department of -Justice Man Arrested Along With Com munists in Michigan Last August, ^ itness Says. Chicago, Feb. 19.—An agent of the l nited States Department of Justice v. ho was attending the meeting of ra dicals last August at Bridgman, Mich., when the place in the woods was raided, spent two days in jail at St. Joseph, Mich., before he was identi fied, Allen O. Myers, assistant general manager of the. William J. Burns In ternational Detective agency testified today. Myers testified in the deposi tion hearing in preparation for trial of the communists and other radicals taken In the raid. H. 57, an I “under cover” man. This agent, he said, was Francis Morrow, alias Ash worth, who was sent to the meeting. Charles Scully, head of the “radi cals” division of the New York bureau of the Department of Justice, was here today, but was not under sub poena and was not expected to tes tify. He was charged by Albert Hailin, alias Albert Balanow, a defense wit ness, now under charges of criminal libel preferred by Myers, with commu nicating to William J. Burns some of the contents of government files while William IYynn was chief of the bu reau of investigation of the Depart ment of Justice, a post now held by Mr. Burns. Myers said Balanow offered to get information on what he described as the “Jewish menace” in America, which Balanow. said eould"V® sold to Ford interests for S100.000. The wit ness said that he rebuked BalanoW for that suggestion. He denied that he Instructed a De partment of Justice operative to go before the supervisors of Berrien county. Michigan, and tell them that the raid at Bridgman and the resulting cases would not make any ,-vddttional expense for the county. Impatience Over Family Shopping Costs Man Car Kearney, Neb., Feb. 10.—(Special.) —K. M. Jones, Overton insurance man, drove a new cm- up from Lincoln yes terctay, stopping off In Kearney long enough to pick up his wife and daugh ters, here on a visit. They stopped at a local department store 1o make a purchase and Jones, impatient over their delay, clambered out of the ma chine to urge them to hasten their shopping. Upon his return out of doors the car was missing. Every road out of town was quickly spotted, but up to today no trace of the stolen machine had been found. It la the second new car. both enclosed models, to have been stolen here within a month. The Jones machine carried no license, only the dealer's tag, being in transit. Ex-Scout, Nearly 100, Dies at His Homc^in Broken Bow Callaway, Neb., Feb. 19.—(Special.) —Milo E. Young died at his horn- at llroken Bow. He was almost 97 years c.ld. He was born in Vermont and was one of the earliest settlers of Custer county coming here in 1856. He was one of the original 13 men • ho organized the county.
