Jan 4.—The cotton market f'uctuated considerably more today than in recent sessions. it sagged c*rly In featurelees trading, 16 to 25 points below the previous final*, with pressure from Wall street longs, New Orleans interests and th© south, but rallied somewhat around midday. Most of the prew-urs was centered on th© more distant de liveries. particularly October. in the afternoon the market again reflected its fundament ally strong position when prices rallied sharply from the forenoon low to a level of 27c for March and 37.10« for May, ita old record high for 3922. This uwrde a gain of about 25 poin's from last night a close. Uneasy shorts coveted on th© way up and heavy long selling was again absorbed, the market exhibiting an excellent under tone. Renewed liquidation prompted by the late unset tlement in stock* and a fueling of uneasiness over the foreign situation caused prices to fall back again in th** last half hour. Local : pot wa* quiet. 35 point* decline, 26.15c for middling upland.
