When the Buffaloes hit they hit,
even if their hitting lasts but one
inning. Yesterday they confined
their rutting to
the sixth inning
of the fifth game
of the St. Joseph
series and de
feated the Saints
by the score of
7 to 0. A single
and then two
homers, all com
ing in a row,
trimmed Willy
Smith s league
leaders.
The Saints held
a 5 to 4 lead
Grtffzn faloes when the
herd came to bat
in the sixth. After Apperson swung
for the third strike,, Grantham sin
gled to center. With tieing run on
first, Heinie Manush parked the ball
out of the lot for his 14th homer of
the season, scoring Grantham. Not
to be outdone by his teammate.
"Babe" Herman threw out his chest
and strolled to the plate. Pitcher
Adams grooved one over the pan
and, the "Babe" clouted the agate
over the right field timber for a
homer, the second one in the inning
and the fourth of the game. Her
man's homer beat the Saints, al
though the Buffaloes didn t know it
at the time.
Four Homers.
Home run hitting seemed to be in
order during the afternoon. George
risher, slugging Saint right fielder.
collected a circuit ticket in the third
inning, scoring Kandler and Olson
ahead of him. "Pug" Griffin's homer,
his eighth of the season, came in the
fourth inning and boosted Herman
across the rubber. Griffin's homer
cleared the high fence in left field by
about four feet and, according to the
last reports, is still traveling. Ma
nush and Herman's four-baggers in
the sixth brought the total of home
runs for the day up to four.
Clarence Darrough started for
Omaha, but was jerked when things
looked bad in the eighth. During
Darrough's seven and two-third in
nings of work he was nicked for six
hits, among which were a homer and
a pair of doubles. The Saints started
one of their well-known rallies in the
eighth, but didn't get very far. "Cap"
Leidy sent Darrough to the showers
and rushed Daniel Tipple to the
mound. The Saints scored one run
in the eighth off Darrough, but
couldn't do anything with Tipple's
deliveries.
Adams Faces Buffaloes.
' Adams was Smith's choice. The
Saint was thumped for nine hits,
scattered among them being three
homers and two triples. Adams gave
way for a pinch hitter in the eighth
who failed to hit. Haid took up the
mound work, but only had to hurl
one inning.
The Buffaloes started out to win
the fifth game of the series at the
very start, scoring two runs in the
nrst, when (irantham s triple to left
scored Apperson. Manush sent
sacrifice fly out .to center and George
tallied from third.
Fisher's homer with two on in the
third gave the Saints a one-run mar
gin over the Buffaloes, while Kan
dler's single, Adams' double and Ol
son's single scored two more for the
visitors in the fourth.
. Griffin Gets Homer.
The Buffaloes came back in their
half of the fourth and, with the aid
of Griffin's homer, increased their
total of "runs to four. Grantham's
single, Manush's homer, followed by
Herman's homer, scored three for
Omaha in the sixth and enough to
win the game.
McDonald.s base on balls, fol
lowed by Spencer's error and JCan
dler's single, scored the final St. Jo
seph run in the eighth inning.
The sixth and final game of the
series is scheduled for this afternoon,
fixing Art and Sports

utive Olympic committee, desiring to
