age In spring wheat were received from
the northwest, bamplee of wheat from
Ottertall county, Minnesota, received at
Minneapolis, showed damage already done.
There also were reports of the aame char
acter from North D.'ikotH. P. W. Snow
of Rartlett, Krazter Co., said he wsa
getting more rust talk. Moat of the
spring wheat Is In the milk stage and the
next few daya la a critical period. Advices
generally seem to Indicate that wheat
ia maturing faster than the rust la de
veloping. The effect of wet weatHer tn the aouth
we.st is M'-cn in the airixat of only 22
cars of wheat at Kansas City, Omaha and
St. Louis, iigalnst 1,020 last year, should
the strike keep up for a few weeks, a

Cattle Receipts were 4,500 head. De
sirable grades of fat cattle continue in
broad demand and while some of the
plainer hinds were a little slow today the
general market on both beef steers and
she stock was steady to strong. Top on
steers was $10.2i. Trade has been very
irregular this week, but thu bulk of the
steers was about steadv with a week ago,
and ome of tho good heavies are as
much as 10 15c higher. Yearlings, how.
ever, have declined under execessive sup
plies, and outside a few prime lota are

latter figure having been estahlithcd
on June l. 1 In further evidence
of easing in world money market
did not conic entirely in the nature
of a surprise.
When the last reduction in the dis
count rate at the federal reserve hank
of New York was announced it wa
expected that there would he a fur
ther lowering ii the Knglish rate.
1'o.ssihly this might have developed
earlier had it not been for the criti
cal situation which came to light in
central Europe. Also heavy borrow
ing hy the government front ' the
Hank of Fniil.ind militated against a
reduction.
Apparently the change !o a lower
rate now is a reflection of a better
sentiment prevailing a to alTairs in
Europe and furthermore the govern
ment had repaid practically all of its
indebtedness to the bank. This latest
reduction in the Bank of England
rate brings the discount a full 1 per
cent under that of New York.
Expert Drop In New York.
The. Interesting question now relates
lu the anion of the New York tank. A,
downward revision may not come for
aome time, hut eventually. It nrrtiii, (ho
New York tat. wilt have to follow London.
The foreign exchange market waa re
actionary, but without developing any pro
nounced weakness. .sterling lost ' of
cent and exchange on Paris, Rome and
Berlin showed loaaes. For the time being
t ha foreign exchanges ara under the in

probably until there haa been some defi
nite tutn one way or the other with re
lation to a moratorium for Germany the
movement of ratca will ahow no great de

Stocks Reactionary.
In the atock market, prices were re.
actlnnary throughout the list with fairly
heavy decline. In aome of the speculative
laaues, a for Instance Mexican Petroleum
which loat 64 point. Several factors
contributed to this display, not tho least
of them a revision pf opinion with rela
tion to the railroad strike. The newa of
the day with relation to this labor situ
ation waa hardly so favorable aa had
been anticipated, fin tho other hand. It
appeared that the way was being paved
for a termination ot the coal strike. Tho
market Is somewhat in the position of
awaiting developments ra to both situa
tions, since each 1 bound up so closely
with the Industrial affairs of the country.
A protraction of either difficulty could not,
of course, be construed as other than unfavorable.
In the light of more important events,
the stock market quite ignored the easing
of call money to the 3 per cent level,
which haa not obtained since Juno 23.
The bond market in contradiction to
the stocks, was firm with a fair degree
of activity centered In the corporation la
aues. The atatement of the relchsbank show
ed a further Increase tn note circulation
amounting to about 3, 500,000, noo marks.
This is a small Increase, aa compared with
that of last week, which reached snnie 11.

la 172.7:;6.O0o,iii)0 marka. a new 'high lev
el. The statement of the Hank of France,
on the other hand, showed a decline in
circulation of some 297.000,000 francs.
New York Bonds
N. Y. Curb Bonds
New York. July 13. Today's session in
the curb market wa. little more than a
traders affair In which prices moved
without any sense of direction. The aver
age of values was lower, with a few is
sues inclined toward weakness.
Aggressive buying was checked for the
time being and in its absence floor trades
made It their business to modify prices
ill around. In the opinion of market ex
perts, little can be expected marketwise
In stocks during the summer months,
but the majority are of the opinion that
the fall months will see the resumption
of the bull campaign.
Mexican seaboard and the voting trust
certificates were taken to the big hoard,
thus robbing the market of Its leading
speculative mediums. Standard Oil of
Indiana continued active and led the list.
These aharea were sold more freely today
on the idea that gasoline prices may ex
perience a further reduction should the
price of crude oil be lowered. Skellv OH
continued firm, but elsewhere among oils
the situation was uninteresting. Fenn
Mexican fuel which has ruled wenk as a
result of the appearance of salt water
in its Alamo No. 8 well, ran up 6 points
today to SR.
Gillette Safety Razor featured indus
trials with a new high for the year and
there was some further buying of motors,
although this group was not as firm as
yesterday. Activity was lacking in the
metal aectton and bond dealings fell off
without material change in the price.
