the delay of the Canadian govern
ment on the St. Lawrc.nct seaway
is only temporary and that early
next year will tee the start of inter
national negotiation, lias been un
covered by the Illinois deep water
way commission.

taking a cruise over the route of
the proposed ocean-going waterway
to open Great Lakes ports to the
seven seat and with tneni ts a sub
stantial delegation from the Illinois
Manufacturers association.

Conference Arranged.
Washington, July 7. Secretary of
State Hughes lias an appointment to
confer with Premier MacKcnzie King
of Canada at the State department
next Wednesday, it was announced at
the department yesterday. The ap
nointmcut. it was stated, was ar
ranged through the British embassy,
which, under present arrangements,
is empowered to handle Canadian
matters directly with the Canadian
government.
Perhaps the chief topic of discus
sion will be the question of the St,
Lawrence waterway, though it is
known there are a number of ques
tions pending between the United
States a,'id Canada which probably
will ne talked over, inciaeiuaiiy, it
is noted that Premier King i asso
ciated with the party in Canada
which has stood for reciprocity with
the United States.
