THE SUNDAY BEE: OMAHA. JULY 2. 1922. B A Republicans of Indiana Unite Behind Beveridge Scattered Faction! of Party Getting Together to Send G. 0. P. Nominee to United Sta(ea Senate. Osnaaa Bf I ! Wlr. Indianopolii, July 1. Indiana re- Jublicant arc uniting behind Atbcrt . Beveridge, uhoie primary victory over Senator Harry S. New lait May appears to have unleathed republican liberalism throughout the country. After years of factional differences in this pivotal state, beginning with the progressive revolt in 1912, the scattered factions of the party are getting together for a mighty effort to send to the I'nited States senate the very man who, with Roosevelt, led the break 10 years ago. This is the most manifest thing In the politics of Indiana today, eight weeks after the primary election in which New, , the close friend of the president, went down to defeat in the clash with Beveridge. Every republican in Indiana who Is going to run for office in the coming election, whether he has been a Beveridge worshiper or not, re- joices that Beveridge is to lead them in the struggle. They know thst they have a battle ahead and that Beveridge is a vote-getter. Whatever happens, it appears now that the fight between Beveridge and Samuel M. Ralston, former democratic governor, for the senate seat is going to be a hot one. Ral ston is popular. The republicans recognize that he was a good gov ernor, that he has standing and in tegrity and that their job to beat him is a big one. So they are rallying behind Beveridge and organizing for the struggle. If possible, the league of nations wilt be injected into the scrap. The democrats are going to try to keep it out, however, but nay not be able to do so. Indiana won't stand for the league of nations and the Bev eridge crowd hope to get it up as an issue, as it will give them a good target to shoot at.
