Mrs. I.evingt played alinot fytt le golf yemerday afternoon in de leating her plurky opponent. The ( new rhamp, with her steady brand ' of playing, uai no matf h for the I rreniont golfer, who had trouble with her drive after the first hole. The Omaha woman was cool j throughout the match an dunlike ! mon women, was not handicapped in the least hv the oallerv. Mr. I.eviiiga cllom hooked a drive and hrr approach shot were nothing snort ot spectacular tor a woman golfer. She was as cool as the ' proverbial cucumber while putting. and taking everything into consider- ation, played a brand of golf that was hard to beat. I Wins First Five Holes. j Mrs. Levin, won the first five holes and turned in a card for the I first nine tin of 4.1 strokes, being j six above par for the outside. Mrs. ! Johnson traveled the outside in 5.1 and was five down when she turned her footsteps toward the home green. The champion made six par holes, four on the outside and two coming in. Mrs. Johnson collected but one par count, that being registered on Xo. 6 hole when both contestants shot threes and halved the tin. Mrs. Johnson experienced great trouble in making her drives carry straight. The out-state golfer's drive was either hooked or fell short of her opponent's. Especially was this true on No. 4 when she required a seven to Mrs. Levings' S. Mrs. John son topped her drive and her second attempt at smacking the white pellet resulted in a great big slice. She took three more whacks at the ball and was on the green in 5 and took two putts for a seven. Makes Good Drive. Mrs. Levings made a dandy drive for No. 4 and was on the green about 11 feet from the cup in four. She took the hole with a five after making a long putt that brought rounds of applause from the gallery. It was such playing as this that de feated Mrs. Johnson. After the fifth hole, Mrs. Johnson started to stage a comeback. Her driving improved and her approach shots were better. The sixth, seventh, eighth and ninth holes were halved, but the handicap of being five down to Mrs. Levings was too much for the Fremont golfer. Mrs. Levings increased her lead on No. 10 when she made the hole in four, which is par. Mrs. Johnson took a five. The eleventh was halved and the match ended on No. 12 when Mrs. Levings took two putts for a five on a par five hole, while Mrs. Johnson required a six. Mrs. Lininger Wins; Another out-state golfer lost out in the first flight of the consolatioi when Mrs. K. A. Lininger of the Happy Hollow club defeated Mrs. Ray Elliott of Lincoln for the cham pionship of this division of the tour nament. The 1922 tournament was a success from every angle. The entry list was much larger than the 1921 affair and the brand of soil better. The tourna- ment was in charge of "Bob" Christy, Happy Hollow "pro" and his able assistant, Willie Weatherspoon. Jack Dempsey, world's heavyweight champion, has 17 days in which to formally accept the challenge of Harry Wills, negro, for a bout for the title or have his crown put up for competition in New York state. The decision was reached by the New York boxing commission to day as a part of the campaign started earlier in the week to force title holders in every division to meet capable contenders or quit and start all over again. Two champions, Johnny Kilbane of the featherweights and Johnny Wilson of the middleweights, have been shorn of their crowns so far as the Empire state is concerned. . Negotiations for a Dempsey Wills bout already are under way. Upon his arrival here yesterday, Jack Kearns, the champion's man ager, went into conference with Tex Rickard, promoter, and Frank Flournoy, matchmaker, and it was announced that a tentative agree ment had been reached, a definite contract to be signed when a site was selected for the match. "I think that everything will be finished before July 10, the date the commission has set," Frank Flournoy said. The battle may be waged in New York state, he added.
