marksmen attended the registered
trap shoot tournament of the Cen
tral Nebraska Trap Shooting league
here Sunday. Prof. J. Smith of Hast
ings and Nelson of Boelus tied for
first honors, each gun scoring 97
hits out of a possible 100 chances;
Rhodes of Kearney followed with 95
targets. Cook and Rinan of Kear
ney and Anderson of Holdrege each
smashed 94 clay targets.

loped the Beatrice team for 10 hits after
trials at every pitcher on the visitors
lineup and took the victory by a score of

sion of the second qualifying round
in the British open golf champion
ship, Walter Hagen, Lnited States.
i and Joe Kirkwood. the Australian
; champion, led the field with aggre-
: gate scores of 147 for the two days
of plav.
Jock Hutchison, the holder of the
, British title, was in third place, with
! 149, while Jim Barnes, the American
I open champion, was 16th, with a
1M, I he other two Americans in
the tournament, C. Mayo and Ed
ward Van Meek, failed to qualify.
Mayo's card read 165. Van V'leck
tore up his score and quit the con
test.
The most notable of the players
to fail to qualify was formf Cham
pion James Braid, who was just
outside the elect, with a total of 162.
His great fault was in putting.
Harry Vardon, Abe Mitchell and
Roger Wethered each had scores of
152. Wethered had the lowest
score of any of the amateurs in the
tournament. Cyril Tolley, another
amateur, required 130 strokes, the
same number taken by Ted Ray.
Jack White and J. H. Taylor each
turned in car'ds of 159, while A.
Massey, the former French cham
pion; Willie Hunter and George
Duncan, each scored 160.
