FARM BUREAU MEETING In spite of the busy season and threatening weather tdxly farmers met in the court room on Saturday afternoon to attend tlte annual meet ing of the Webster County Farm Rurcau. The following program was carried out: President's remarks, Joe Gurncy. Secretary's report, Carl Fausch. County Agent's repoit, Henry Fan vch. Mr. J. L. Gilniore explained the duties of School District cn-opcrutora and tho necessity of havinfy-co-opora- tors to represent the various local ities of the county. Mr. Newton Gaines was tho orator of the day and made a fine talk on tho value of organization. Follow ing this the constitution and by-law's were changed so that (lie annual meet ing will be held the first Saturday in December instead of February. There were two reasons for making this change, the first that the fiscal year of county agent work closes Decem ber 1st, and tho second that the roads are better in December than in February. The following directors were elec ted: Alex Puschaw, Blue Hill; Chas. Guthrie, Roscmont; Ernest Tcrrill, Cowlcs; Carl Fausch, Guide Rock; Fred Householder, Bladen; Joe Gur ncy, Inavale, and John Ryan, Red Cloud. The board elected Chas. Guthrie President and Carl Fausch, Secretary. HENRY R. FAUSCH, County Agricultural Agent Baptist Church Notes Preaching at 11 a. in. and 7:I!0 p. in. Sunday School at 10 a. m. On account of the continued rain the ob servance of the Lord's supper was postponed until next Sunday morn ing. Believing there is no question, save perhaps tho League of Nations being given more thought at present .'by Christian people, than the Iutcr ehurch movement, we believe any thing authorative on the subject will be appreciated, therefore wo give without waste of time and space by comment an extract from report of Committee on I' hidings, adopted by Inter-board Conference, Cleveland, Ohio, May 1," 1919: "To meet the natural and propel inquiries of our churches as to the character and purpose of the move ment, we deem" it wise to state that tiio Inter-church world movement is a co-operative effort of tho mission ary, educational and other benevolent agencies of the evangelical churches of tho United States and combine to serve unitedly their common present task and simultaneously and togethoi secure the necessary resources of jnen money and power required for these tasks that it is a spiritual undertak ing of survey education and inspira tion, that it is an instrumentality, of co-operation and co-ordination of administrative agencies and assigned to serve, not to supplant them. It is this positive character of the movement that we desire to exalt, at the same time to prevent misap prehension. Wo affirm our definite understanding that this is not an ecclesiastical movement nor an effort at organic union. It will not disturb nor interfere with tho administration of any church or board, neither will it undertake to administer or to 'ex pend funds for any purpose beyond its own proper administrative ex penses. It has a definite and tem porary mission. It will not duplicate or conflict with other denominational agencies. It docs not assume re sponsibility or authority in question of. church or missionary policy, rec ognizing that these belong to tho co operative agencies and organizations, and we disclaim all statements by whomsoever made contrary to his declaration of principles." Tho foregoing with that given last week will give us somewhat of an un derstanding as to tho character and purpose of the Inter-church move ment!. Fanners' Union. adv. May Crop Report Winter wheat improved during tho past month and present chances for i a word production are excellent. The condition of 101 per cent compared to 97 per cent last month indicate) a production of 70,700,000 bushels, which is more than twice the produc tion last year. At $2.00 h bushel this will dd 141.400,000 td the wealth of Nebraska farmers. Thin in the lntetrt estimate of A. Anderson of tho Bureau of Crop Estimates and E. It. Danielaon, Secretary of the Nebraflkit Hoard of Agriculture. The abandonment is practically negligible this year. This is an un usual record in view of the extremely adverse seeding conditions until the second week of last October and can bo accounted for by a suilkient mois ture supply and a minimum of low temperatures since that time. Cool, wet weather this spring has caused exceptional stooling. Some fear has been expressed that the thick stand may induce rust or that it may lodge or dry out. Wheat is a little in ad vance of the usual which decreases the chance for rust. Plenty vain for a month will almost settle its moisture requirements as dry weather is pre ferable for wheat during tho three weeks preceding harvest. While some lodging may be expected from the large, rank growth, the present con dition is preferable to the small, spindling growth produced by a dry, unfavorable season. Last year's har tcsIs were very light and this should leave an abundant supply of available plant food for the heavy stand of wheat. In view of this, there is little room at present for the pessimists. The condition of winter wheat for the U. S. is 100.5 per cent compared to 99.8 per cent a month ago. This promis.es a production of approximate ly 1)00,000,000 bushels compared to J)58,.M9,000 bushels the final estimate lust year. The condition of rye is 102 per cent which indicates a production of 7,127, 00 bushels. ' The condition of rye for the U. S. is 9,").U per cent. Tho preliminary estimate of nil tamo hay is 1,7G9,000 acres. The in crease in acreage is due largly to the ever increasing acreage of alfalfa. This places Nebraska nearly first in the acreage of alfalfa, having prob bly a slightly lower . acreage than Kansas. The possible harvest of wild hay may bo 2,717,000 acres. This may vary considcrabli according to conditions. The present condition of all hay is excellent. Alfalfa especial ly is farther advanced than usual for this date. Only 0 per cent of last year's crop of all hay remains on farms compared to 13 per cent a ear ago. Tho condition of pastures is very good. About 55 per cent of the plowing for spring plunting was completed May 1. It os delayed by continued rain:. Approximately '10 per cent of the spring planting and sowing was done by May 1. The seeding of oats and spring wheat w.'ts delayed by numerous rains. The mortality of livestock for the past year was about the average, ex cept in the case of swine where it was lower. The past winter was very favorable for livestock. Shortage of feed reduced the vitality of stock in some sections of the state. Tire gen eral health of all livestock has been good. In general farm conditions arc very good. Aside from the delay of farm work by the numerous rains, most reports indicate that farmers arc well pleased with the prospects. Witn a large reserve supply of subsoil moist ure there is less to worry about than last spring when the subsoil was prac tically dry. The corn acreage may in creased this year at the expense of the acreage of oats. Rev. Hqmmcl spent Monday in Hustings. Attorney McNeny returned homo from Lincoln Friday evening.
