interests today have flielr pi'i fi ril
eaniBdatc for (!ovornor in the pewm
of .Mr. Dalilnian, wlui is commended
lor his courage by Mr. Ilryan. ninl who
stands for a wide open boo.o policy.
The liquor interests were heartily in
favor of the repeal of the law prohibit
ing the establishment of a saloon with
in a certain distance of Kurt Crook.
They secured the passage of a bill re
pealing that law, but despite their
every mlluoneo and all the pressure
they could bring to bear, Ciovernor
Shnllenberger vetoed the bill and
there are no saloons at Fort Crook.
If ever the liquor Interests exerted
themselves to prevent a bill from be
coming a law they exerted thenisclvf-s
to prevent a bill from becoming a law
they exerted themselves to secure the
veto of the eight o'clock closing law.
Governor Shnllenbeigcr signed that
bill despite the frenzied protests of
tlie liquor interests. The liquor in
tetests were opposed to the law for
bidding the drinking of intoxicants
on the trains, yet Governor Shnllen
berger signed that bill also. The only
progressive- Honor legislation in Nc-
biaskain twenty years was unacted
b.v a democratic legislatute in Ne
braska and approved by a democratic
governor. Yet despite these plain
proofs that Governor Hlmllcuberger is
in no way tied up with the liquor in
terests, Mr. Urjiin charges the con
trary by inference if not by direct
language.

County Option may or may not be
an issue that political paities -liould
take a dellnite stand upon. That is a
question men of all parties must de
cide for themselves. Hut in view of
ail tho facts it would seem that any
chut gc that Governor Shullenberger Is
in any way allied with the liquor in
terests must fall of its own weight.

and leuow all sides of nil question1-.
Tin y read and digest everything front
garden planting to politics and can
eonvcise intelligently upon any Mtb
ject of current interest. Hut there is
one thing lacking. As far as political
matters arc concerned our people seem
to be content to solve problems simply
for the pleasure ot reducing a puz.le
to its beginnings and then they stop.
The time lias come to reverse former
ptactices and to take an active parti
in selecting representatives to our
state legislature who win act lor tne,
best interests of tho state regardless'
of political inllucnce. The stay-at-homes
have contented themselves in
tho past with the comforting thought
that tho politicians will control and
the result has been that in most eases
individual nests were feathered and1
the party glorified. I.e-s than one1

fact that it requires the sacrillce of an ,

active part in the nil airs of our coun

right now that lie will .itteiid tho pri

Let him exercise a little unselfishness
and do a little work for his country.
We would like to see a law passed that
would refuse men front voting at the
general election who did not partici
