Nellie Maxwei) is seriously sick, so sick that hr life is almost despaired of. The Drums and Gfes for the Mar tial Rand arrived TuesJayn ght, all we lack now is some body to play them. They are splended instruments and we hope at no distant day to have some good musicians oat of the boys here in town. J. S. Gilliam went to Bloomiug ton yesterday to attend a lawsuit. R.D. The people in the North part of the coutny have a new post office, named Catberton, of which Mr. Cow ley is postmaster. Those cigars we have been smok ing of late came from Uncle Sam's. He has a large stock of new drygoods, groceries, boots and shoes just arriv ed and will sell them as cheap as ever. As yet, to our knowledge, uothing definite has been done with the premium list for our fair. It is high time that this matter should be attended to. The farmers and citizens are determined that Web tpr County shall have a good fail this fall. They want to see the pre mium 1-it, to know for what the high est premiums are to be given, that tlwy may raise something for the vari-ou- prizes. Last ear, the pro;os:tion for the premium list was defered until a late day and then had to be amcniol. The con-equence Was tint our fair was not as stfcces-ful as c uld be de-ire '. It is not a bit to early to have the li-t in print, and it will look as if som" thing were to be done, if the work is commenced in time. John G. He claims that this will pre vent the wind from blowing it away. .Moreorer he has some millet seed lor sale and on reasonable te ms. A word to Farmers about the fair. On the farmers depends the success cf the county fair. We know of no rea son -why every farmer in the county cannot raise something that will be credible to them-elves and to the val ley. !Every farmer ought to x-el his neighbor in some particular. It doe not speak well for the energy and Hi rift of a farmer to be unreprc-ented at tlic county fair. There is no dis- 1q . (Q q -,,, bat I . . . , ., .. it is a bad sign to have nothing worthy of exhibition. Franklin county gained the premium at the State Fair, not because she raised the best of anyone thing, (Webster County would have successfully competed wiih her there,) but because all of her farmers were alive and energetic, and each one had somethiug to exhibit. It was the quantity not the quality that gave our neighboring couuty such celebrity. Webster outnumbers Franklin in pop ulation, and we can surely equal her in the quality of our produc tions.
