The Falln Oity Journal is laboritit;

cerning the tneeting of the Republican
J?tatc Kxrcutive Committee lately held
in Omaha, and after charging several
unheard of things, asks why Judge Ful
ton, pf Richardson county, had no offi
cial notice of the meeting.
For the information of the Journal,
as welt as all others who arc not ported,
I we will t-ay that a Central Committee is
chu&'n at each Sute Convention, to hold
it; life until another convention meets.
In this State said committer has gener
ally consisted of one member from each
Senatorial District, or thirteen in all.
At the last State Convention, however,
two dibtrictB equated in the West part
of the State were each allowed one extra
incisb, fat. reajpns themmd.there con:
bidered sufficiem. , After the election of
u central committee in open convention
that committee elect five of its own
members to form an Executive commit
tee, the duties of which are not of eo
general a nature as the central cotiiniii
lee. The meeting in question was
called by Mr. Johnson, Chairman of the
central committee, not by MujorCaftrey.
The notice was published in the usual
form, and the date right as far as we
saw. Wc were present at the meeting
as a spectator and know of our own per
sonal knowledge that no attempt was
made to apportion the representation of
the State, nor to fix the time of holding
the State Convention. Before the'incet
ing was called to orders and-after" ad
journment both these questions were
freely discussed by all persons who choe
to participate.
For the benefit of those who think
they sec "wool in the fence" we will
atate that there was nothing daid or done
at that meeting which tended in the re
motest degree to show any attempt to
dictate to the party, or to put up any
"jobs" of any nature. It was purely a
business meeting that could have been
held in any public place, as far as the
transactionsare concerned. We have no
doubt that when Judge Fulton knows
all tie circumstances ho will have a dif
ferent fee1irfgabout tho matter,

The Brownvillc Advertiser of last
week has a long and somewhat bitter ar
ticle concerning our neighbor, Prof.
Williams, of the Lowell Register. He
is charged with trying to engender a
sectional feeling between the Eastern
and Western portions of the Stata.
Wo know that Prof. Williams is an
ablo and energetic worker fur the inter
ests of the entire Slate, and especially
so for the locality or section in which he
lives and moves. lie has the "nerve"
to epeak "right out" and ability to back
it up, and if you have any more of those
kind of men to spare from Nemaha
county send them out this way where
talent is appreciated. With regard to
tho Professor's political aspirations wc
have no official record, but nre speaking
only as to his general usefulness as an
editor and citizen.
The apportionment of the State school
fund for 1S74 has beeu published by
Supt McKcnzie, and shows the rate per
scholar to b 1.47,51. ILdcr this

Nebraska may well be proud of her edu
catioBal facilities, as there is about three
times as melrriiclroJlrr as iu the
othar western States. Another reason

The first County Sabbath School Con-
veatioB of Webster county met at the
School Home on Friday evening June
12th, and was organized by electing Rev.
A. Well Chairman, and C. W. Springer
Secretary.
After appropriate devotional exercises
Rer. A Maxwell addressed the Conven
tion on the object of the meeting, which
he stated, is brief, to be acquaintance,
sociability and interchange of thought in
advancing the Sabbath School cause.

Saturday evening a meeting was held
which was uddre-sed by Rev. Wells,
Maxwell, J. Q. Potter, J. B. Potter and
others, but space forbids even a synopsis
of the many valuable suggestion? of this
and other mectiugs of the Convention.
A new zeal was inspired in the Sabbath
School cause, and we hope it will not be
without a telling effect upon our own
community.
