Our town continues to grow bigger
and more of it. Jim Grace has built

south of town, above Sam Chapman's.
Dick Streight is building Sou. 11 of the
barn. Anew house, over on Episcopal
hill. One near Lenhoffs brick yard.
Dan Wheeler is building a new barn
nice one-Mr. O'Xeil, tho Carpenter
has put an addition on the old S'hafer
building and there's lots of other new
" housen" and things which we shall

Mr. Prank Morrison in the boat line
was tried last week.the boat moved up
to the Hayou, and thos j who saw it
feel confident of its success. In connec
tion with this we print the following :

A curious machine h;is been invent
ed by Professor Ualsamo, of lAcce, It
aly, bv means of w hich vessels are to
be propelled at will in any given direc
tion without resource bcimr had to
screw or rudder. The efiicieucy of this
new piopeller has been tested by means
of a miniature ironclad to which it
was applied. Though small, this ves
sel, constructed by the Professor him
self, was modeled on the type of the
largest ironclad a:loat, and was fur
nished with furnace, cylinder with pis
ton, steam condensator, feeding pumps,
etc. The secret of the new propeller
is not disclosed, no further clew being
given than that its aim is not to allow
the c4Kii:oor the vessel to be illered
in virtue of the passive lesitance of
the surface of the rudder, but in virtue
of component motive force." varying

(paired, thus utilizing nearly the whole
live force developed by the engine.

Yankee liobinson, with his trained
company of artists, made a second
appearance at Moore's Opera House last
night The play rendered, sports the
unadorned and suggestive tide of -'Sas-sacus."
and if it was spelled "sassy
cuss," would come very near giving a
reason for its name. Tho play is a cu
r'ous creation. It really has a plot, af
ter all, although melo-drama like it
usually manages to shullle along and
off without any well defined plot to
keep the spectator in wonder. The
play of" Sassacuss" is one of those cu
rious compositions which mingle in
strange and startling contrasts the
comic and tragic, and in which the de
scents from tlie sublime to tho ridicu
lous are so sudden as to almost bewild
er the spectator.
We should not forget the singing by
the Jay Hrothers. Those w ho heard
them last night will want to hear them
again. To those who have listened to
them we are willing to leave the ver
dict to their merits. "The Minute Gun
at Sea." as sung by them last night,
took on new beauty as a song. The
loud encore and repeated applause the
bioth'-rs received were merited.
A criticism upon the performance
hist night l;as not ben attempted here
to any extent. We do not desire to
unduly Hatter the performers, but to
sav the' all did creditably will not be
saying too mu-:h. The company is a
strong one, and is w orthy the public
pat ronage.
