SPELLING SCHOOL.
Last Thursday night a large party
of young folks met at the Snyder
school house, five miles southwest of
town, O. H.. Hildebrand teacher, for
the purpose of having a spelling bee.
Sides were quickly chosen aud the
spelling commenced and lasted for an
hour without either side gaining the
victory. A recess for fifteen minutes
was then had for rest and sociability,
After recess Miss Snyder and Miss
Cook were appointed Captains and
chose their warriors for the bloodless
fray. Skirmishing commenced with
the small werds, and a picket here and
there was wounded, but the conflict
soon became warm as the heavy artil
lery was brought into line, and officers
and privates went down by the "doz
zen," until Miss Cook's side was en
tirely decimated, with the exception
of Miss Cole, who gallantly stood to
her post and continued the unequal
fray, but finally was compelled to give
way to superior numbers, and Miss
Snyder was declared the victor. It
was decided to hold another on next
Wednesday evening, Feb. 7th. All
who wish to spell and pass a pleasant
evening are invited to attend.

For many years we have made two
medicines suited to the ailments of a
vast class of sufferers. Thousands of
cures have been made by them, and, in
fact, the word failure could not be
conpled with them. But within the
last two years counterfeits of our med
icine have sprung up, dangerous in
their close imitation of our Trade Mark.
To secure the people we have placed
upon each genuine, box of if olloway's
Ointment the fac simile of the signa
ture of our agent, Mr. Jes. Havdock.
To counterfieit is felony. We shall re
lentlessly pursue any one who imitates
this with the utmost vigor of the law.
We most earnestly beg that the great
mass of the American people will aid
us in our efforts to protect their health,
and help us in our task of bringing
these most unprincipled men to the bar
of justice. Uniformly refuse to pur
chase Medicines purporting to be ours

attached to each box of PilU or pot of
Ointment. and the end will soon be
reached.

Is act of discharging from the throat and
chest tter that arises from colds, instead of
scatter, irand distributing it through the blood,
and poisoning it. By thus assisting th Lungs,
Throat and Chest, Dr. Greene's Expectorant
cures Coids, Coughs. Asthma. Bronchitis. Croup,
Dyptheria, Whooping Cough and all affections
of the lungs. Throat and Chest, and the first
stages of Consumption and Typhoid Fever. Its
qualities are Expectorant. Sedative Tectorial
and Alterative. It does not stop the cough as
most preparations do, by their anodyne and as
tringent effects, retaining the mucuous and of
fending matter in the blood and causing pe r ma
rent disease of the lungs, but it cures by loos
ening the cough ant assisting the lungs and
throat to throw off the offending matter which
causes the cough, thus scientifically making the
cure perfect. It at once alleviates the most dis
tiessfng cold on the lungs, soothes and allays ir
ritation, and breaks up Vhooping Cough. No
better remedy can be found for Asthma. Bron
chitis. Croup and all affections of the Throat,
