An article, very well written, about City School affairs, is too late to be of avail, as the nominations are made. The Mayor of Detroit has resigned because of the reckless expenditures of the Council, which he is powerless io prevent. POSTTritEtiiTATIONS. Each Post Office box or drawer, in all Post Offices, is restricted to the use of one family, firm, or company. If Tilton saw what he says he saw on the Red Lounge, and still kept on being friendly and taking money from Reecher aud others, it is a late day now to cry about the ruin of his family. To the County Clerks' or Election. Please keep a duplicate tally of your vote and forward to the Herald at once. It helps us so much to give all the news. We have received a communication signed "Pappy 's little boy." We do not . know whether it is a joke or not, but at all events it is about personal mat ters and is not signed. We cannot , publish it. Hon. S. M. Kirkpatrick, (R"ep.,) is a farmer living near ML Pleasant, about GO years of age, and one of the earliest settlers in the State. He has served in several of our early Legisla tures, was a member of the last Con vention, and is a man of varied parts and much information. There are few better read men in the State than Mr. Kirkpatrick. Geo. S. Smith, (Rep.,) is a young man. a lawyer by profes sion, resides in Plattsmouth, formerly law partner with T. M. Marquett, and stands high in the estimation of his friends and compeers. He has just been nominated one of the School Board for the city, and will make a good active working member of the Convention. Jacob Vallery Sr., (Dem.,) is an elderly gentleman, living four miles from Plattsmouth, a farmer by occupation, owning one of the largest and handsomest farms in the County, numbering nearly one thousand acres. "Uncle Jake," as he is familiarly call ed, was born in Alsace, in the ould country: came to Ohio at an early age, and grew to manhood there; he has held numerous offices of trust and pro fit, when his party ruled the roast, having held the office of Sheriff of Pike Co., Ohio, for the term of twen ty years. In Nebraska, Uncle Jake has been the nominee of his party for State Treasurer, and also Sheriff of Cass county, and is perennial assessor, road-master. School board director, &e., for his district. Personally he is straight forward, honest as the day is long, a good neighbor, an honest dealer and a 1kM faced, clear cut. dyed in the wool, old line Bourbon Democrat. Long live Uncle Jake. Mr. Dovey's business qualifications and integrity are unimpeachable, and the Herald, with all good Republicans, most sincerely hopes he may be elected. W. L. The Marshall and Police Judge are both well known citizens of the town, they have both served in the same ca pacities before and have given almost universal satisfaction. As they will undoubtedly be elected, it is no use for the Herald to waste any more prin ters ink or typo elbow grease on their cases. Of the City Engineer, it may be said "good wine needs no bush," George is perfectly able and abundantly willing to hoe his own row and take care of himself. He can engineer himself across the naked prairie, run a line with old geometry itself, and box the compass against Dovey's sailor man (he once told us of) or box any man's ears that takes too many liberties with his name, race or Nation. So the Her ald wishes him God Speed and no tan gents to calculate against. The School board are all supposed to be good fair competent men and if elec ted will, we feel assured, devote their best energies to making our schools a success and a source of pride to the City. To the Ho notable JIayor awl Council of the City of Plattsmouth: Gextlkmex: Your City Marshal makes the following annual report from the 14tM d:.iy of April, 1874, to the 27th day of March, 1875. XI' MB I" 11 OF ARRESTS. Disturbing the Peace, Drunken ness, &.c 4? Obstructing streets, 1 Selling Liquors on Sunday 1 Discharging Firearm, 1 We understand our old friend Judge Maxwell, is nominated in Dodge coun ty for the Constitution, and also that there is a bitter fight made on him by certain parties, on account of what they are pleased to term his previous record in the last Convention. Ordin arily it does not pay aa editor from another county to interfere in any lo cal matters outside of his own region but in this case where every good citi zen is directly interested in having sound, conservative and able men to frama our Constitution, no matter what part oT the State they come from, and because the Judge was a former resident of this county, and the chrtrg es are based, on his suppoted opinions while acting as such representative, we beg leave to say a word or two in Lis favor, and also to state the facts. We have Inquired into the m ttter, and find that Judge Maxwell did not advo cate oxorbitant salaries for officials, on the contrary, he opposed high sala - j-ies. He was, and is a friend to the people, and opposed to extortions or excesses of all kinds, opiosed to reckless and wasteful, or untried and hazard ous legislation, and emphatically op posed to making the Constitution a Leg islative document. In short, ho was, and is a plain, practical, conservative man, and has shown himself such, in all his public acts. We hope iio may le elected this time. Total. FIXES AND FEES.
