We received this invaluable gui le to lovers of dowers some time since but have been unable to notice it hereto fore for lack of space. The guide is published quarterly at the rate of twenty-five cts. a year, and each number contains information enough to more than compensate for the yearly price. Mr. Vick's heart is evidently in his work and that is enough to insure success. In a friend ly chatty manner he gives valuable information upon the culture of flowers, and the ornamentation of rooms, tables, windows and yards by them. His seeds are reliable and comprise larger variety than can be found else where. He also offers some very beautiful chromos at advantageous terms. We advise all our readers to write to James Vick, Rochester N. Y. for the Guide and also for a good col lection of sseds either of flowers or vegetables. " " - A" number of "Winnebago Indians have come from Wisconsin to the Win nebago Agency, in Northern Nebraska, : and a timber of Omaha Indians from the Omaha Agency, came down to Plattsmouth. Tuesday, to sell fur, robes It will perhaps bo remembered that last June, a man by the name of Hunt forged a note on Nelson Jeans, a farm er near Plattsmouth, and sold the same to John Shannon of this place. After this performance the said Hunt hunted himself a shady spot down E;ist, somewhere, and the said John Shannon has been hunting for the said Hunt, and the above mentioned shady spot ever since. About ten days ago the hunter ended the hunt he treed his game; found his man way down in York State, and by authority of sun dry littlo pieces of paper from ye quill of our noble Governor, the said Shan non was permitted, by the Governor of the said York State, one John A. Dix, to bring the said game right along to the State of Nebraska, with the ex press understanding from the said Dix, now Governor, that if any man attempted to hunt Hunt, except the lawful hunter (Shannon), or if the said Hunt should get sassy and at tempt to roll himself in the American flag, and thus disgrace it, the lawf ml hunter might "shoot him on the spot." Hunt took it cool, however, and Shan non took it cool, and the weather be ing moderately cool, both arrived here last week in good condition and im perforated by anything more deadly than sundry paper bullets called requi sitions, and some blank cartridges, of an old style, named informations: by means of a conical shell, Mittimus, Shannon has turned the proceeds of his Hunt over to Sheriff Cutler, who says if he tries to cut and run he'll shoot and le done with him. Next Friday a week there will be a legal bombardment about this Hunt, the artillerists for the hunter being Wheeler & Stincheorab, and for the hunted, Sam Chapman. We call upon the. IMPERIAL Baking Powder is the best in the world. Sold by F. R. Guthman and J. nerold. 41 w3 T ELEGRAPHIC! Washington, Jan. 12. Morrison R. Waite, of Ohio, was nominated for Chief Justice to-day, and the nomination is well received. Though he is not generally known to the Senators, those who are iersonalIy acquainted with him speak so ' highly of him a3 to give him a favorable standing at the outset. The executive session this evening lasted only long enough to refer his nomination among others to the committee. The old Central Union Depot at Chi cago was burned on the 20th. The Siamese Twins died on Saturday morning, the 17th, at their residence in Richmond. Post Master General, in reply to resolutions of the senate in regard to the franking privilege, submits some statistics going to show the saving effected by abolition of that privilege, and urges it to have, at least a fair trial before repealed. In case of the return to distribution of public documents, he recommends their transportation as freight ; he also recommends free transportation of weekly papers in counties where published. CIRCULAR LETTER- STATE OF NEBRASKA, Executive Department, Lixcoln, Jan. 15th, 1874. t , ) To tne Commissioners of Cass County Nebraska Permit me to call your attention, especially, to the First Section of an act, entitled, "An act to provide for the enumeration of the population, and registration of the births and deaths, in the State of -Nebraska," approved Febuary 12th. 18G9 Chapter 7, "Cen sus," page 101, General Statutes of Nebraska. I sug.-est that the provis ions of this act relating to "a careful enumeration of the total number of persons residing in the several prec incts of" your county be promptly and carefully complied with. Heretofore, I understand, but little, if any, atten tion has leen paid to this act. With our rapidly increased, and increasing population, the question of Congres sional representation is an important one, and in which the people are mani festing a lively interest. The state of Nebraska is without its just and legitimate representation in Congress, and no effort or duty should bV left unperformed to secure our due in this respect. It is believed that, with a satisfactory showing of our actual population, one, if not two, ad ditional representatives in Congress can be obtained. It is imporiwyr. that the census should be FULL ana iURATE, to accomplish the object sought and desired. ROBT. W FURNAS, Governor. Centaur Liniment.
