AX Al'HI.OuV. Somebody owes an apo'og3 to Prof. Patterson and the pupils of Naomi In stitute lor the non-appearance of the ar ticle descriptive cf their recent pie-nie excursion. 1 he article was written in time and f-ent to us, as the author sup posed. The gentleni-in entrusted with its delivery forgot it until the present time, end we publh-h it to-day late though it is knowing thr.t very many of the pupils of Naomi arc expecting it, and that they will excuse us, under the circumstance, fer not producing it before Tin: TIKE WORKS. Prof. d'Alkmand nnd Frank Stacker, il-Mj., the jrentlemc'n who had charge of the fire works In'-t evening, are entitled to much credit for their success in that line. The exhibition was the finest we have ever seen in Plattsmouth. The balloons ascended to a height of about lilOO feet, and were visible for a long time. Hurrah for our Plattsmouth Py ratechnists. Ilamne by E.ltitninf . During the storm last night, the light ning struck the belfry of the eccond ward school house. Following the cirner po.-t of the belfry down to the roof damaging both belfry cnlrocf; thence following the hollow of the brick wall, breaking almost ovciy brick, reach ing the door, tearing it oft the hinges, r-euttering the splinters and p'eees of the door-casing over the house, and pas.-ing ofT through the fioor. It is very fortun ate that this did not occur duringsehoo! time or there Wuuld have been some lives lost. Messrs. Abbott and Waters, of Green wood, have our thanks for especial fi vors shown us v. hi'e in their neighbor hood yesterday. They are whole soured, liberal gentlemen, and will ever be re membered by us. Wc under.-taud the j eople of Eight Mile Grove had a fine cele!ration j est' r day. Wc have no particular? yet, but hope to have in a day or two. Another severe rain storm, with a "good sprinkring" of hail, visited this section again last nigh. The gorge at the Main street culvert caused the water to Gil several cellars which had only just been emptied. No damge except in the Lrooks House, where the floors were bulged up. tsie Kiwn.iY st noni. viv sic. The Baptist Sunday School of Fight Mile Grove chartered two of thoso ele gant passenger coaches on the li. & M. yesterday, and proceeded by special train to Lincoln. There were about one hundred and Cfty of them, and a brighter let of faces we have not seen for many days. Messrs. Metteer, Mayficld, Mutz and others were along to asv.-t the fmaller folk? in enjoying themselves, and we think tliey all sueeeeded admira bly. At every station they were joined Ly "others, among whon we noticed at Ah!and, the cheerful countenances of Mr. and Mrs.-Fean and their little cnes. The cseur.doni-ts were received ;.t Lin coln ly the Uaptlit Sunday f'eho..l of that j-.'aee. They enjoyed thrm-clvrs in eveiy available manner u.itil the hour for return, wheu they again loaded the cars r.nd returned to Plattsmouth, fjtd'mg that the day had been pleasantly r.nd proGtably spent.
