The first "Bethlehem Packet," Como dore Doty in command, arrived on the Nebraska shore at 0 a. m. to-day. She came part of the way on a heavy Jew and the remainder of the distance on a jack frost. Many of our cilitcns will remember Henry Combe Burns, who flourished in this city (and city jail) since the flood say about last fall. He went from here to St. Joseph, where he had the delirium tremens:, and we now hear of him in Kansas, lecturing on phrenology. YrcA. Leiiliofi" is the tallest stepping man in l'lattsmoutli. He thinks of go ing fcver to settle the i rcnt-h with his ''light infantry" if they don't come to terms at once. Lenhoff is the "dad" of twin boys lie U ! We had the pleasure to day of meet ing Mr, C. E. Wingate, of Chicago , whe is looking for a business location. He exprcss3 himself highly pleased with the prospects of our city, and will probably lcate here. Mr. L. Foster of Burlington is in the city with a new patent felt roofing. He has the cantract for roofing the R. R. Machine i-hops, where our people will soon have an opportunity of exam ining the article. The people of Weeping Water have called a delegate covention of the county, to assemble at that place for the purpose of expressing their views on the R. R. bond question. See call in another column. The Omaha Herald publishes a letter from Dr. Miller in which he says he will "probably" return in time to testi fy before the committee. How are you "probably" Miller. Mulholand, Thatcher, fc Co., are mak ing excavations near the railroad track, south of the machine j-hops, for an ex tensive grain warehouse. They are pre paring to b y a large amount of grain during the coming season. They find this the best point in the west for ship ping, and they will probably confine their opperations exclusively to this city. There is much excitement in Lincoln, among the Spiritualists, over a little girl who is a medium and will go into a trance and write and speak as intelligent as any grown person. A revival meeting is in progress at Ash land. During the past week seventy five persons have united with the church. The meeting is not under the auspices of any particular denomination., bat is being conducted principally by Rev. Mr. Doane, a Baptist Minister from Illinois. Is it poft-ible that Morton and Miller have "Butlerized" and left the State to keep from convicting him of "high crimes and uiisc'cnicannrs" in "fifteen minutes' " swe.;r? EVENING SESSION. School Government This being an important subject to the teacher ; the discussion was entered into with con-id able spirit by all the numbers, ari l al so by Maxfic-ld and Murfiu in which all considered that much of the trouble o school government arises from false or no government of children at home. On motion, the question 'how can the people be brought to a ju?t apprecia tion of pure literature, to the exclui-ion of the class ot literature, now so gener ally read was taken up, in which Mr. MaxfielJ and T. It will bo news to many people in this State, ami especially about Nebraska City. It is the first intimation we have had that "Dan." "J. Dan" the no tcl ''local" of tho Neics, an l more re ceritly of the Times, had left the State or had turned preacher. Farewell, Dan. Eight pa?sencrer8 who left the train last evening at Omaha Junction with a view to crossing the Platte for Omaha were compelled to retrace their steps to the station and telegraph for conveyance to this city, where they arrived in due sea son, wet tired and hungry. The iec in the Platte was too much for them. Married. February 23, 1S7I, at the residence of S- Duke, Esq., by Hew J. B. MaxliclJ, Mr. J. D. Tutt and Miss N. Wilson; all of this city. Across tho threshold led. And every tear kissed ofT as soon as shed ; His houso she enters, there to ha a light Shining within, when all without is night; A guardian angel o'er his life presiding. Doubling his pleasures, and his cares dividing. Rot. E S3. A large crowd was gathered together on Main street this morning by a sum mary effort to collect a debt from a gen tlenian who was about to bid farewell to the peaceful shores of Nebraska and try his fortune in some clime toward the ris ing sun. J here appeared to be numer ous persons interested in his departure or rather in his retention ttnd he was ordered to "ground" his carpet bag an:! disgorge the diiferent amounts claimed. Th countenance of Sheriff Johnson was so.m seen coming that way, and the de fendant in tho - sti soon told him "the story of his wrongs." The Sheriff ia formed the wo'tld-be emigrant that the "court" had no jurisdiction over him, and that he could depart iu peace, which hiut he was Lot slow to act upon ; and ere this lie is probably far beyond the reach of his persecutors. The Lincoln Journal copies the com pliTttcnt of Prof.' Dehr to Miss Lil'ie Simpson, of this city, and adds: " We had the pleasure of hearing Miss Lillie perform on the piano yester day while at PlatLsmouth, and will say that we never heard any one that could beat her. She is really a " musical progidy " being a young miss only four teen years old. She will take the mnst difficult pieces and after glancing at them will set down to the Piano and play them without making a mistake. She has composed a number of pieces which are Tul'.L-hed by Oliver Dteon A Co., of lioston. Pr.ATTSMOUTH. Feb. 23, 1S71. The house was called to order by the President.
