The Bavarian minister ol' war has re
ceived the following : The French gar
rison made a sortie from Strasbourg yes
terday, but were driven back with heavy
oss. In a battle between llleneuve
and Montransrc, near Paris, on the l'.ith, !
the second Bavarian corps, supported by
'russians, sustained an attacK ot Gen.
Viuoy's divisions. The Bavarians took
seven cannon and over a thousand pris
oners. The French were driven back
into their entrenchments.
Special to the New York 'World,
London, September 21.
The Prussians sustained a very serious
check yesterday in their third attempt to
cut the line oi the Oilcans liailroad.
Alter their repulses at Jucisy and before
the lort ol lvry, they yesterday under
took to force a passage to tecurc posses
sion of the line. They were met in their
auvance Irotu Corbeil, on the main trunk
of the Orleans line, at the hamlet of
Wiscons, a village commanded by row
hills, and hurried in tho woods by the
J rench. A Prussian coluuiu oi thirty
thousand men was encountered by a
French force of about equal numbers,
posted in the most advantageous positions
and with formidable artillery. The cn
engagemcut was extremely severe, and
lasted nearly six hours.
A iresh column ol ncailv twenty thou
sand Prussians came up, after the battle
had pone on three hours, and attempted,
by a flank movement, to enter the woods,
the slaughter here was most fearful.
Masked batteries of the l rench Mitrail-
leu.-e kept up so continuous and terrible a
lire that the cavalry and infantry oi the
Prussians were decimated and repulsed
along the whole line. They finally fell
back m disorder, hotly pursued by the
French, who cut oil" their retreat upon
Corbeil and the Essone, aud drove them
down the main line of the OJeans road
more than three miles through Savigny
and Eninny Sur Orjzc, and back, about a
mile and a half, upon tlie village of
Montibery, where a fierce stand was made
in the Burgundian Cemetery. The Prus
sians were here routed aud driven in dis
order back towards their main body, being
compelled to evacuate Corbeil at the same
time, and re-concentrate upon Tdcluti.
Ihis victory clears, for the present, the
Orleans line, which is the only communi
cation between Paris aud the provinces
now open. Flying parties of Prussians
have succeeded in cutting all other roads
at points more or less remote from Paris,
within n circle ot thirty miles, and in every
case thev caused proclamations in French
to be distributed, announcing death to all
working parties attempting to repair the
miscluel done.

JjONDOX, fcopt. 2J.
The Tribune correspondent has ar
rived from Lyons and Tours and brings
an important account of the internal
condition of France. The reported in
surrection at Lyons against the Paris
government r, not true. Our corres
pondent left Lyons Sunday, after spend
ing several days there.
The municipal election was held on the
15th, and it returned a majority of the
independent committee to the council.
They are mostly members of the In
ternational Workingmen's Association,
who fly a red flag. They distrust Tro
chu and Favre, but do not reject the
Provisional Government. The town was
quiet, except the constant cannon prac
tice. The whole male population was
armed, generally with muzzle loading
smooth bore guns. Most of tho battal
lion carried no flag : a few have tri-eolors
but associate amicably with others.
Telegrams in some of the Ixmdon
journals assert that the Prussians, having
been repulsed in their last assault on
Toul. have abandoned the .siege, and are
marching to join the army around Paris.
A dispatch from Bombay reports that
the German corvette Medusa and the
French corvette Duplex have made ar-rangemcnt-
for a naval duel in the Japan
ese waters, at an early day.
It is announced on authority that the
Emperor Napoleon intends to issue a
manifesto, and that the French Senate is
to meet at Lornages.
It is generally believed here that the
Prnsshns' nogoiiations arc solely for the
sake of delay, so as to secure possession
of Paris durip.g the investment of the
city.
The following important encasements
have occurred : On the 17, the Pius.-ian
brigade routed several battalions of
French north of Brevamies forest ; the

who wore never outside of Fram e, and

Beyond a doubt Paris is provi: loned
fbr four months. An appeal has been
issued by the authorities begsing the
citizens to exercise the greatest care and
frugality in the use of provisions from
the prc-cut moment. Trochu is working
indelatigably. Yesterday lie was con
fined from indisposition. For the past
two nights the city has been ahuo.-t in
total darkness. Tlie citizens are adopt
ing measures to light tho streets with
lamps.

I lc expects to get through the linos, but
it is doubtful if he succeds. All commu

The members of the Provissiona! govern

Toi rs, Sept. 22.
The Prussian cavalry entered Mantes
Sur Seine and made a requisition. They
subsequently rejoined their corps, which
is advancing in that direction.
Fighting near Paris continues with va
rying results. No important engage
ment yet. The reports that the Prus
sians had occupied Orleans are not con
Armed. The manufacture of arms by
private parties, as well as in the na
tional armories, has been vastly in
creased. Letters from Metz, picked up at Fen
ctrange, reiterate the assurances that the
place is well provisioned and the morale
of the garrison excellent.
It is rumored that Lyons will be made
the temporary capital of France. The
provisional government is determined to
repress the excesses ot tlie reds.
There is a strong movement on th
part of the clergy of France in favor of
the national delenee,
Railway and postal services are still
extremely irregular.
Information received here destroys tlv
hone of peace. Favre expressed a wil
iingncss to accede to any plan to satisfy
Prussia for electing a representative as
semblv. and thus obtain the voice of a
duly accredited government, thus mak
ing terms of peace : but the Kins of
Prussia's counsellors positively refuse an
armistice, and will make peace only on
condition of retaining possession of the
districts now occupied.
Favre informs his associates in the
government that the session of Alsace
will certainly be the ultimatum of Prus

of his mission.
