Chapman is in the city, stopping with his brother, Sam. M. Chapman. From ten to twenty car loads of ties are arriving daily for use west from this city. Mr. Quaid, in charge of track laying from this .city to Lincoln, will push things through lively for the next sixty days. Hon. W. T. Chapin, Receiver of Pub lic moneys at Lincoln, came in on the coach last evening, and left for Omaha this noon. A second track has been laid from the Railroad landing to Main street. The number of cars arriving with construction material could not be accomniocLted on the one track. Mr. Henry Robertson has the base ment to his house adjoining Murphy's hotel building about complete. He has put in a very substantial wall, which materially helps the appearance of the property. The Sociable last night at Masonic Hall, was a complete success. There were about thirty-five couples present, and a pleasanter time was never had at any gathering in Plattsmouth. It is contemplated having a repetition every two weeks. Financially the success was cpial to the social part. The Johnson Bros, furnished the music, and it was generally conceded that they cannot be surpassed in the west. From FriJuy'0 Daily. The Chronicle says the first instalment f thieves from Omaha . arrived at Ne braska City. - Ishani Reavis, Associate Justice Su preme Court' of Arizona, arrived in Omaha yesterday, 25th insL, to his home in Falls City, Neb. en route John Irwin, a heavy laud owner of Otoe county, delivered an oration before the County Commissioners of Otoe Co. recently. He is said to "be a forcible speaker. Senator Thayer has delivered the first of a scries of lectures at Omaha, before the Y. M. C. A. nis subject was ''Lovalty to Truth." A geod subject and the Senator handled it admirably. ' Mr. Pennis Dee was called upon to "stand and deliver" in the vicinity of Omaha one night recently. There were two follows made the request, and not caring to he penurious about it Mr. Dee forked over $50 all he had. The man who can see no good what ever in anything that does not exactly meet his views must be a very miserable creature.Morton charges the low price of grain to "radical rule." He is just calculated to be the political leader of men, who can be made to believe what he says. Let every man who owns a lot in Plattsmouth. and who can raise a few hundred dollars either in money or build ing material, be ready to erect a house early next spring. There will be an un precedented demand for houses in this city next spring, and with all that can be built there will yet be an insufficient number. The lumber trade in this city continues good, the demand far exceeding the sup ply. There is no other one . thing that shows how rapidly Nebraska is improving eo well as the amount of lumber used. From this day hence Plattsmouth will be tho great depot of supplies in this line for more than one-half of Nebraska. We have direct railroad connection with Bur lington, Chicago, and the Pineries, hence the ability of our lumber dealers to sup ply the article at the very lowest prices. It is the nature of some people to over reach, and attempt to do more than they can do well. We fear our neighbors at Omaha and Nebraska City are troubled this way. At Omaha they have waited nearly the whole year without attempt to take the benefit of the wise and liberal land grant passed Lv-t winter, and now they suddenly take up and talk about building two roads before the 15th of February. Nebraska City has the same disease. She has boen struggling hard to secure the buildii.g often miles of one road, and before she has that secure she mounts to her high base and talks about building the second one. Look out ! Tableaux and charades to be gotten up by the ladies and friends of the Presby terian Church, is the best news we have heard since the completion of the B. & M. R. R. from Burlington to Platts mouth. It is a fact the good people of Plattsmouth are becoming too careless, in fact, too eager to gain the golden prize to give their attention or support to social entertainments of any character no matter how good or worthy of our support. We deprecate this state of af fairs, let the citizens of Plattsmouth give their encouragement and support to the energetic ladies of the Presbyterian Church, or any church which shall inaug urate a series of social entertainments that' may help to keep our-young men away from the saloons and sink-holes that infest our town. We give our hoarty support to anything calculated to reform the social and moral state of OHr society. Further mention oi time and place of holding thesa tableaux will -btr ciadp. in due season.
