They have sold out their entire stock of corn planters, and aro now re ceiving a heavy instalment of reapers and thrensbers. They' know something cf the value of Printer's ink. (3Geo. Boeck, Esq., left for the cast a few days since for the purpose of lav ing in a heavy supply of iron and wagon timber. He is turning oat some of the finest wagons in the country, nnd should be substantially encouraged in his efforts to huild up a heavy rnanuf nc'uria: btui nessin this city. Boeek's wagons are superior to any eastern manufacture. (JTThe increasing demand for Metal Tipped Shoe', both Silver and Copper the former being extensively ued on fine shoes, ho3 cono'asively that the pub lic appreciate their value. It is astonish eg that any parent ithould buy any oth er, as they save holf the expense in keeping children supplied with shoes.-- .V. Y. Post. m CTHorton Jenks, of Weeping Wiitor, are building a new store room 23x31.; of pine lumber, and Messrs Red k Beardsley are building one at the same placo 2Jx40. This speaks well for that locality, nnd.shows a spirit of enter prie that cannot fail to have its effort. Wo learn that Dr Thomas is also erect, ing a fine resideroe at that place. fJTOur old f i iend Jenks has bought a half interest in the store of Hoiton St Co , at Weeping Water. Go to the meeting at the Court House next Saturday and hear the report of the Committee. jyOne-'hird of the Senate of the United States has decided that it w is not a misdemeanor for Andy Johnson to get drunk and "sheot off bis mouth" in a boistrous manner all over the Country Had a private CU!en.,n1r,lMV,i ili..K-t would have bem hauled up beforo a Recorders Court and finod heav ily, and probably locked up in the "cal aboose" until be got e.'ber. Great is Andy the First, and contemptible is the spirit that truckles to power. (5 A gentleman who was traveling through the county last week assures us thatf not withstanding-the ereawery about grasshoppers, he never saw a bet ter prospect for heavy crors than at pres ent. The grasshoppers have done, and are still doing some injury; but the great er portion of wheat is looking remarkably good. He thinks there will bo double the wheat raised ia this county the present season that there was last ye ir. tThe .Ve ws suggests that a premium bo offered in each county, by the County Commissioners, for the four largest nnd best cultivated tracts cf timber lam!. We are in favor of thot, or any other method that will beget a spirit of tim ber calturo in the Stato. The timber will grow fastenongh if people will only plant it and kocp the firo out. There are trees in this county now that measure two feet in diameter which were planted since we came to Nebraska. (fWe made a short j-.urney into the country last Tuesday, and were surpris ed to s (To the improvements being made. Nearly all the o!d roads through the the country are fenced up, and new fen reach as far as the eyi can see. Thousands of acres of fresh sod are being turned over; new houses are going up all over the country, and everything indicates prosperity and permanance. The grasshoppers have done considera ble injury in places, bnt the chances are yet good for heavy crops. A few years more of prosperity and Cass will resem ble the old settled counties of the east. Dehork-t's Illcstr atid Monthly. This periodical has risen from being a mere Gazette of Fashion, to the position of the popular parlor magazine. Ladies who take it think "the world of it," as their phrase is, and are quite sure they cou'd not get along without it. Confess. ing ignorance of those points which would enable us to do entiro justice to its merits, we may freely admit that it is most carefully and conscientiously con ducted, thai its literary tone is far supe rior to the general run of parlor j.eriodi cals, that its information upon bouse hold subject is complete and reliable, and its authority indisputable. Moreover, its patterns alone are worth douMe the cost of the magazine. A larg and un usually interesting amount of reading matter is promised for July, for country enjoyment.
