ft :.5K,.. .... LOCAL NEWS- Prom Wednetday'B Dai'y. A correspondent in Rounds' Prin ter!.' Cabinet, in speaking of our national nfTiir kjijs : Our c ir nf hVr'j h on an cp grade, an l the con lu.rtor N pre.isin tire track. We may li to ju-np out, throw on ean.j, nod chuck him and his "policy" into a slouch. fifThe Festival last nilit for the hen eGt of the band, was a complete success, beij far more renumerativo than IIou d'.n's beneGt, aUhoi'gh there was not so largo a nunibor in attendance. Great j,rai?e is due Mrs. Ed. l'.uttery and .Mrs. (J. II. Black, who originated and success fully carried out the entire proraminft. Tho nett proceeds amounted to the refreshments beinz a donation. The printer were remembered with a beauti ful and toothsome cake. j?"We are always glad to notice im provements of any kind, and to encour ie every legitimate enterprise that smarted; but wo cannot r.nd will not en courage any person or company that at tempts to break down the legitimate bus iness of another without themselyes be in; any real benefit to the community. The Western stage company commenced, yesterday, to run coaches on the line between Omaha and St Joseph, in opposition to tho Kansas and Nebraska einpe company. Cur people will remem ber that for the pat two or three years, we have been "b )red" with a one-horse I uck board arrangement, and no efforts could avail to secure anything better This was under the contro!in; iniiuence, if not under the direct management, of tho Western Stride Co. Mr. Wheeler, of Kansas, secured the mil contract, and immediately took steps to ftock the line and meet the reasonable demand of trav el, lid has succeeded admirably, and bus now the very bot of four horse coaches aljug the whole line, nod charges nlv what every one will admit to be a reasonable compensation. Is it justice to Mr. Wheeler, or is it justice to the community, under these circumtunccs, for the Western stage company to now run in and attempt to drive the coaches of K. & N. sta9 company from the line? . We hope every person who wi-hs to pay one cent to cither company will takt theso things into consideration. If Mr. Wheole.r'd coaches should be compelled to draw off, bow long would it be before we would again be reduced to a buck board. Tho object is to kill the travel on this side of the river, in order that the lire on the other side may have it all. Will the people of Nebraska assisi this schrme by throwing otT on a company that has wi-h anvth'n in her lio? of buvn's will d; well to cll and see her. We don't happen to know much about Dress Mak ing (a great wonder, too, as a "loe'il" is supposed to know ail about everything), but we do know Mrs. Jon dors good work, because she advertises in the Herald. CWe bar received a letter from Mr. Ellison, of Denver, formerly a resj. dent of this flio, in which be complains of not receiving the IItrai-d regularly. The paper is mailed regularly, and the only way we can account for its non-arrival is in tho abuse of the privelege to charge, letter postage in advance ; on tmisi'Tit pnpers across the plain. Mr. Ellison is a regular subscriber to the Hfrai.ii, and we hope he may hsreafter receive in regularly. C??"Th ''local" of the RrpuLl.can says he is of tho opinion that bis assertion about the 13. & M R. II. coming to Oma ha is correct, but will lock the ir atter up We do not think it requires much '"look- ing up," as there is not a solitary word or act of an official nature that tends to convey such an idea. Will the aforesaid local please make the correction? We ask it a a matter of justice to this local ity. We either want tha correction or something more than mere opinions that it is not needed.
