Persons at a distance need only l send their orders, nnd they will be filled to their entire satisfaction, both in ngard to price and styla of workmanship. 3?" We see by the Nebraska City pa pers that the authorities of that place have put a tax of $50 per day for circus es that exhibit there, be.-ide.s an extra license for each side thow accoinpanvmg. Vlij cn't Piattsmouth adopt some such measure, and make these men, who carrv off thousands of dollarsand give nothing but stale jokes in return, pay something more than they do toward putting our streets and bridges in better cond.iioo. i m C??"Another we bit of a scrimninge'' took place on Thursday evening. The proba bilities are that s number of the boys belonging to the Neb. let band will lo cate in this place to foon aa they are out of the service, and with the addition of a few of our own citizens a pood band conld be organized in a short time. It wou'd not only be a source of gratifica tion to those participating in i, but would obviate ti e necesity of sending to some other town for.a bandon festive occasions. rj3F"Among other things which the cit izen of this placa are gr. atly in need of is a banking house. Although we arc not very well versed in the banking business we are of the opinion that it wou'd pay here, and know it would be not only a great convenience to the people, but would expert a great influence in assist ing to build upthetowm. The amount of liuin-es done at thia place freighting and o:h-rwie will undoubtedly require the service of a banking house in a short time, and it appears to us that now is the lime to commence it. J37"Siiine cowardly, bushwhacking sc -undre., who had the fear of man but not of the Lord before his eyes, cut the harness from the horse of Rev. J. G. Miller, on last Friday night. This man ner of seeking redress for some supposed wrong or grievance, is only practiced by those who have not sufficient manhood to come out openly and state their case, and trust to the justice of their accusations to bear them out. We are opposed to any man taking the law in his own hands, but we hope the next one that attempts this kind of a trick in Piattsmouth will receive a good charge of buck ehot. C57"The Festival and Concert, given by the ladies of the M. E. Church, on last I riday evening, was a complete success. The number in a'.tendence was very large, considering the state weather of the and the short notice given. The refresh ments consisted of ice cream, cake, straw terris aad peaches, which were provided in great abundance. The tab.es were beatifuily arranged, and decorated in the most tasty manner with a profusion of ll owers. The music, by the Oman aMusi cal Troupe, was excellent, and the only regret was that they culd not give us more of the same kind. The whole affair passed off pleasantly, and red-ats great credit upon th- ladies who managed it. The nett proceeds amounting to about $110 are to be d-voted to the praise worthy object of repairing the parsonage of the M. E. Church. We doubt if there is another town on the river where the same interest is taken in charitable affairs of this kind as in Piattsmouth. ""Piattsmouth is becoming notori ous f,.r a place of its size, for the number of '-row s" that occur. Last Wednesday uftt mean a Cht occured in one of the saloons, which resulted in '-second best' getting a severe cut in th? side of the h-ad. "First best"' th n proceeded to arm and equip"' himself, and watch i,:it for "u iiik movements.'' After con--il-riblj maneuvering, however, both ; .u-iies retired in good order. During the n:ght the good people residing near th- we-t end of M tin Street were aroused from their slumbers by the cry of "Mur der," and immediately after several pis tol shots were fired. Upon inquiry it was f fcund that sc. me unruly chars, htlonging to a wistward boui-d train, had endeav ored to force an entrance into a house oc.-upied by a Mrs. Powers, and were p- rsuaded ' to desist only aft. r one of their number l ad received a balljihrough the leg. We understand the in in that Z 1 shut was afterwards taken before Mayor Cooper and fined $25. Let every offender of this kind be dealt with promptly, and thu full penalty of the law iiiliictt-d, and it will soon have the effect of abating this spirit of rowdyism. m 7'PI he concert given by tho Omaha IleeClub, on Saturd-ty night, vasi well attended, ' 'nnd everything passed offto the satisfaction of all concerned. The th inks of this community are due the members of this club, not only for the pleasure their miiMC afforded but for their liberality in donating the entire proceeds of the concert to the church. Th-y will j long bo remembered by our citizens for this act of generosity. This club is compos-d of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson, Miss Guss'ie. Estabrook, Miss Mice Clark, and Mr. C as. Parcel. We learn they had quite an "interesting time" cr .ssing the Platte river on their way down, and were compelled to aban don their conveyance in the middle of the stream. The trentl y . j like true knights, hore the ladies throu 'h : i the turbulent stream and land, d them safely on terra firrna. We hope the next ; time ihey pay our city a visit, we will be j belter prepared for their accommodaii n i in the way of instruments, &c. 157" Mauy of our merchants are iiow rec-ivujg iheir goods tor the fall ; trade. Tootle, Ilanna &, Co. have inade ci'tisiderable addiiiou to iheir an nietjse stock; Melone & Epperson; Wi.t. llerala; I3Iacl, Buttery Co., ttid others, h tv - received goods in their line withid the past week; and K. T. Doke ci Co. have received the largest sio k of stoves, tin and sheet-iron, ever brought to this market. In fact, cur business men generally are preparing themselves for an ininensu trade this fall; and, judging lrom appearances, their preparations are none loo exten sive, as the demand from the west will he great, to say nothing of the great increase in the local trade. U'e have received several numbers of The Soldiers' Casket pnbliehed by C. W. Alexander, 123 south Third St., Philadelphia. This is an excellent book, containing a vat amount of natter that is interesting to every body, Soldiers or citizen. It aboundi with incidents of the war, relating personal encounters and occurences that are passed over by the historians. Prico $200 a year two per cent, of all receipts to go towards paying off the National Debt. Send im mediately and get it. (3?"The Territorial Librarian has our thanks for a copy of the Laws psssed at the last ses-ion of tne Legislature. We find, upon examination, that various change have been made in tho laws reg ulating the prices allowed publishers in certain cases. We Lave, of necesity, regulated our prices by the old law here tofore, but will now be governed by the present statutes. Some arrangements should be made whereby the laws could he printed and circu'atcd more than four months before they are .'ikely to be changed, as it is inconvenient to be gov erned by a law and have no means of ascertaining what it is. RfsS'There wi'l be a Camp Meeting at Mount Pleasant, commencing on Fri day next, under the auspices of the M. E. Church. JSWe hear considerable com plaint from the formers iu this section that grain has been too wet for stack ing. It is the belief of some that not one half the grain that was cui can be saved in good condition. A ereat deal of that already stacked was damp when put up, and the continual wet weather since has prevented it drying out as was anticipated it would. The corn crop was Dever belter than this year; but ihe great fear of farm ers is that the wet weather will prevent it ripening until frost will injure it. LOCAL ADVERTISEMENTS.
