Farmers Cixh. We attended the Farm
ers Club meeting on last Saturday, and
were pleased to see so large a number
present This society has been in oper
ation some four years, and Las undoub
tedly contributed largely toward placing
Cass county so far in advance of other
sections of the Territory in agricultural
knowledge. The success of our farmers
in raising crops when their is a "fail
ure" in other localities, is mainly
dependent upon the diffusion of agricult
ural knowledge by the club, whero all
maters of interest to farmers are freely
discussed not for the sake of argument
but to obtain correct information. We
hope to see the farmers of the county
continue in'their good woik, until other
parts of the territory shall see the neces
sity of. similar organizations; for our
prosperity is mainly dependant upon the
success of our farmers atkast, we are
certainty advance as ling as farming
can be made profitable. The proceedings
f the Club meeting will be found in an
other column.
IIei.d to Hail. Four persons were
brought into our city on Saturday eve
ning charged with horse stealing. They
were emigrants for Oregon, and had got
as far as Salt Cret.k on their journey,
where they were orertaken and brought
back. The missing horse was found in
their possession. The explanation they
give of the affair is, that a boy travel
ing with them,(who2is one of the prison
ers, and held to bail) was toid by some
unknown person that the horse had been
lost by some emigrant who bad One on:
that the boy found him at large on the
prairie and brought him into the camp.
They also state that they frequently told
the boy he had better turn the horse loose
as tliey had no feed to spare for him.
One of the men was discharged, and
the other two and the bov were bound
over for their appearance at the
r.ext term of Court. Wo are not
advised of the amount of their bonds,
nor whether they are liable to be filled.
Many of 0"r citizens express tho belief
that there was no intention on the part of
the prisoners to sfrai the horse. We are
not conversant with the nature of tho
testimony giren in the case, but infer
that it showi them to be guilty of crime,
or they would not be held for further ex
