Vonnor says that on the JlOth of this
month snow will fall in tho northern
portions or tho country, ushering in a
cold and wot May; and that lato and
soveio frosts are probablo in south
western sections. Vennor's weather
always co'inos, wo have noticed, but not
always at tho exact date predicted for.
W. E. Chandler has boon con firmed

Mr. Marshall P. Wilder, tho horticul
turist, says that ho found, on visiting
the famous vineyard of .roliannisborg,
that tho wine mado from grapes grown
on tho top of tho hill brought $10 a
bottle, that on tho side, half way down,
$5, and that at the bottom olilv two
francs.
Tlio Chicago Presbyterians passed
resolutions thanking President Arthur
for vetoing tlio Chinese bill, because it
would prevent the conversion of tlio
Chineso to Chgistianlty, and because
it is contrary to tlio spirit of our na
tional institutions.

The saloon keopers of Lincoln have
been compelled to pull down their
window blinds and door screens. It is
possible, however, to do a brisk whisky
business in such a town as Lincoln
Without blinds.

cheeky.

A recont visit to tho city of Calvort

Druggist, has just received an Immense
stock of wall paper, tho most beautiful
patterns at lii cents a bolt. Window

astonishing how nice a loom can bo

keeps a full lino of books, both school
books, miscellaneous books, and blank
books, writing papers, all kinds and
sizes; envelopes of every shade and
color. When you go to HrOwnvlllo do

book store, and If ho has anything you
want, he will sell it to you as low as
can bo afforded and you can depend
upon tho quality and of getting exactly
what you buy. Those who buy of
Nickell will never regret it.
An Unwarranted Assumwtion
, . - -, -Vy.
A great deal of indignation has been
expressed, in tho University matter, on
the assumption that a University pio
fessor must) bo "tried' pio forma, bo
foro ho can bo dismissed.
This is altogether u mistaken and
mischievous ussumption. Tho pro
fessors aro simply employes of tlio
board of Regents, and thero Is no moro
reason for trying fhem than thero is
for a farmer having u trial of a farm
hand ho does not wish to hire longer,
or a merchant of a clerk that for any
reason ho does not euro longer to em
ploy, or a compositor in a printing
olllco that we don't want. All that is
necessary, in any sucli case, is tho prop
or notification just what tho Kegeilts
havo givnh tlio bounced professors.
A number of our editorial friends
would have saved considerable powder
had thoy kept (Ills fact in view, It is
gonorally about as well to know what
wo aro talking about before wo say too
much. Jfniit Imjt Nebi asJcan.
